The Manager, Richard was extremely welcoming to us as we got off the canal boat looking for food. The pub is just on the canal and perfect for anyone travelling by boat to stop off for food and drinks. There were a large selection of ciders, beers and wines. The food comes highly recommended by the locals “Never had a bad meal from there.” One group said, and they were all too right. The highlight had to be the pie of the day, which was steak and ale, which was all homemade (including the gravy and peppercorn sauce on my steak). Richard had the kitchen closed by 9pm, but after asking him, he and his daughter Richelle opened up the kitchen to prepare our pudding for us. This was an example of going over and above, and we couldn’t have finished the night off without Apple crumble and sticky-toffee pudding, which were delightful.

Would recommend anyone stopping by the area, either on boat or caravan, to swing by and visit this prime example of a...

Party of 20 enquired about a meal A couple of days before we were arriving But being a bank holiday weekend we thought we were pushing our luck The Landlady and her husband said we could come and join in on a local wedding celebration But the kitchen would be closed and said we could order takeaways and eat them in the restaurant On arrival we couldn't have been made more welcome Sat us in a nice area and promptly came out with 20 plates and cutlery Then they noticed the Chef was still on site And rushed to ask if he was willing to cook our meals off the menu It was supposed to be his night off and the kitchen should have been closed He promptly laughed and got the ovens turned on so he could start cooking with the help of the proprietors daughter I can not thank Simon Kelly Monty and Hannah enough You certainly gave us all an amazing night to remember And we are all grateful of such amazing hospitality I can't wait to come...

Ate there on a Weds night and the food was rubbish. Our order took over half an hour to arrive, then they forgot the starter. My fish, which cost £10.95 was obviously a frozen oblong type. It was cold and I had to send it back. I was informed by t by e waitress when it returned, with now cold chips, that it had been "chucked back in the fryer for a bit". It came back hot, but geasey. My friends pizza which was £10, looked like a cheap value range one, but was apparently home made? The top was burnt and it was soggy underneath.

Pudding wasn't much better £4.95 for fudge cake that had seen about 5 secs in the microwave as the sponge wasn't warm. And my friend had her cream poured on hers rather than given it in a jug.

We were told that the food varies depending on who's working. We spent about £100 between us, I think we'll take that risk somewhere else. It should be...

Top knotch pub and campervan stop over. Canal to the back and co op just down the road. The oweners are absolutely smashing and the locals are friendly. Great selection of gins but only one choice of whisky unfortunately. Food was good standard too. Darren said the Thai vegan/Veggi curry was banging and the chef was accommodating letting me have the breaded mushroom starter as a main instead with extra salad and some chips as my Veggi option. Our Darren met another Darren here who had the same Birthday as him! What are the chances of that? All round a friendly and welcoming place in warm and cosy atmosphere in a great location. It's on the list to vist again in the van especially as the have shower/bath room available for charge. Looking forward to returning.

Hired a canal boat. And this happened to be the first stop on night 1. And so glad we did. Richard, the manager and barman that night was super friendly. The pub is a very traditional pub. The pub grub was AMAZING! Genuinely. I had pie. And it was proper pie. Crust all the way round. With chunky chips. The accompanying gravy was really thick. Just as I like it. And then got to play some bar skittles and darts. Loved it. Highly recommended.

Our last stop before we hand the boat back to Willow Wren boats, the service was 5* the moment we walked through the door and every step of the way from ordering food to eating food. I fully recommend the food here along with a nice pint or your favourite drink. They are dog friendly which we needed as Ted doesn’t like being left on the boat. Will definitely be coming back again. The Heron and Grantham crews. 19/10/23
