The Manager, Richard was extremely welcoming to us as we got off the canal boat looking for food. The pub is just on the canal and perfect for anyone travelling by boat to stop off for food and drinks. There were a large selection of ciders, beers and wines. The food comes highly recommended by the locals “Never had a bad meal from there.” One group said, and they were all too right. The highlight had to be the pie of the day, which was steak and ale, which was all homemade (including the gravy and peppercorn sauce on my steak). Richard had the kitchen closed by 9pm, but after asking him, he and his daughter Richelle opened up the kitchen to prepare our pudding for us. This was an example of going over and above, and we couldn’t have finished the night off without Apple crumble and sticky-toffee pudding, which were delightful.
Would recommend anyone stopping by the area, either on boat or caravan, to swing by and visit this prime example of a...

Read moreAte there on a Weds night and the food was rubbish. Our order took over half an hour to arrive, then they forgot the starter. My fish, which cost £10.95 was obviously a frozen oblong type. It was cold and I had to send it back. I was informed by t by e waitress when it returned, with now cold chips, that it had been "chucked back in the fryer for a bit". It came back hot, but geasey. My friends pizza which was £10, looked like a cheap value range one, but was apparently home made? The top was burnt and it was soggy underneath.
Pudding wasn't much better £4.95 for fudge cake that had seen about 5 secs in the microwave as the sponge wasn't warm. And my friend had her cream poured on hers rather than given it in a jug.
We were told that the food varies depending on who's working. We spent about £100 between us, I think we'll take that risk somewhere else. It should be...
