Rose & Castle — Restaurant in Rugby

Lunch before work and today im a a pub in a village called Ansty just on the outskirts of Coventry off Junction 2 M6. 30 degrees and another hot day makes it perfect. Inside its quite low down and if your above 5ft 8in you best start ducking for cover 🤣 COVID 19 procedures were in operation.

The menu is very varied and offers a decent selection to choose from. I've gone for the below today:

Main - Stilton chicken I love a bit of 🧀 me. Chicken breaks with Stilton, bacon and chunky chips. Fat chunky chips which were well cooked inside out. The chicken though nice was overpowered by the Stilton and had a very rich creamy texture to it. It was fine but I would not go for this again as it was a bit underwhelming.

Portion sizes here are on the smaller side when weighed up against the prices on the menu.

I was going to have dessert but waited 15 minutes after I had finished and nothing was given to me despite asking for it.

Overall the pub is about average. Service was friendly but on the slow side (check back and a drink offer wouldn't have been a miss here)

First time I've been here in years & it still didn't disappoint. Lots of choice on the menu plus a specials list. Waiter service for drinks & food order. 2 chaps working who were very friendly, polite & professional. My friend ordered a prawn cocktail to start which was a good sized portion with ciabatta, butter, salad & lemon quarter. Our mains looked & were amazing. Steak & stilton, chips, salad & a side order of onion rings & steak & stilton burger, chips, coleslaw & side salad. The steak & the burger were delicious with plenty of stilton. The meals were large & neither of us could finish our meals. The dessert menu was too tempting & I had the banana & toffee pie/cake. Digestive biscuits topped with banana & toffee sauce, topped with fresh cream & chocolate flake. Beautiful - certainly recommend. Coffee for afterwards. They also do liquer coffees & bailey coffees plus hot chocolate. The bill came to what we'd perhaps normally pay for an evening meal. Visited this pub with some friends and enjoyed a lovely meal. Food was very good and service professional but not friendly. However on leaving the pub I discovered my car had been broken into along with another customers. Window was smashed and belongings taken. Whilst reporting it to the police they requested I ask the pub if they had any CCTV to which the manager was rather rude when he said they hadn’t. The staff didn’t seem to care about what had gone on in the car park. Looking back on reviews when I returned home it appears that this pub has a problem with this sort of thing as others have had the same experience.
