Not impressed. Went here with my family because my Mum likes it, but it appears she is easily pleased.

They hadn’t got out table ready so I had to wait while another chair was brought. When it did arrive there was no eye contact nor apology. The lady in charge was as welcoming as a prison guard.

We weren’t offered a wine list so ordered house red, being a bit bemused by this but not wanting to make a fuss so as not to make my Mum uncomfortable.

I ordered the carpaccio, which was like 4 pieces of 2 inch across minute steak when it arrived, far too much rocket and a cheese which looked more like cheddar than Parmesan. I don’t think the chef has any idea what a carpaccio is.

My main course was haddock with mushy peas and chips. The haddock was overdone, the chips rubbery and the mushy peas bland and so thick and over cooked I could slice them.

I decided to forego dessert, as unless you like Mövenpick ice cream, you were largely out of luck.

My girlfriend ordered an espresso with ice cream (which caused the young waiter some buffering issues) specifically asking for it to come in a bowl.

It came in a saucer. Too much effort?

My fellow diners weren’t as disappointed as I was (hence the 2nd star). My girlfriend described her steak as ‘pub standard at restaurant price’. My brother had the steak and ale pie which he liked, but the pastry looked disgusting. His wife had bangers and mash.

The staff were largely young, except for the unsmiling Matriarch (who incidentally walked through me twice during the evening, without the tiniest attempt at courtesy), and who - and I’ve never seen this before- all openly sipped (presumably soft) drinks all night. I’ve never known waiting staff to pay such attention to their own needs rather than their customers. We had the one round of drinks all night and were not asked if we wanted more. True, we could’ve asked, but I felt I had given them too...

We have been loads of time to the plough, some time it's a group of 9 to other times just th two of us and every time they seem to be better than the last time, the staff here are amazing always just the right amount of attention as to not be over the top, the food is some thing else ive had the steak here cooked just right for me, ive had the steak nd ale pie which i admit was the best steak and ale pie in a long time ive had and the fish here is great aswell, i think that there menu is so so good you will have to keep coming back to work your way though it, there restant area is nicely spaced out so your not crammed in and has a warm and cossy feel, the bar seem to have a big choise of drinks and being a tea totaler there are plenty of soft drinks, there is a car park at the side, Thank you to all of you at the plough for all your hard work trust me it shows you care about...

IM A TOP 7% GOOGLE REVIEWER FOR FOOD EUROPE WIDE.

We are.changing our review from. Couple.of years ago.

UPDATE

SUNDAY DINNER

THIS PLACE HAS FALLEN I'm afraid.

Roast Potatoes, unseasoned and barely cooked. TATSELESS Meat - had beef and lamb. Beef, very small portion, lamb was tasteless

Stuffing was like rubber.

Veg is difficult to get wrong but they got it okay.

Beers are very limited, no bottled beers and only Moretti on draft in pints worth drinking.

A shame that this chain (I yhi k its the the Reddington pub chain) has now fallen drastically to well below what it was a few years ago

Chefs need sacking/retraining and an overhaul of management .whoever owns it has dat back and is enjoying the profits from previous years. Won't happen un my book

Will not be eating here ever again.

Will update another websites and let people know.

Very very...

Hubby and I so enjoyed the tasty food, the cool breeze through the sliding doors onto the lovely garden and the cosy atmosphere. He had roast cod and I loved the roast salmon, served with posh mash wrapped in a short tube of ?seaweed (edible and so tasty) crowned with tender green beans. To top off this gastronomic delight there was a very tasty sauce. If I could have licked the plate I would have :) With a sumptuous sweet each, a half a lager shandy and a delicious iced latte the bill was a very fair £60. The total experience of Sunday lunch for 4 adults and 2 kiddies at a run of the mill Greene King the day before (no desserts) at £80 was incomparable! Thoroughly recommend and will be going again!

Top class lunch! Just returned from one of the best lunches I’ve ever had. Great venue and fantastic value for money, food was well presented and tasted amazing. What we had .. Starters ⭐ Roast Parsnip Soup ⭐ Roast Scallops ⭐ Pressed Terrine of Roast Chicken & Black Pudding Remoulade Main ⭐ Braised Beef ⭐ Chargrilled Sirloin Steak with Truffle & Parmesan Fries ⭐ Chargrilled Bavette Steak Clean plates all round 😀 This is the sort of environment everyone should try to create in terms of what fabulous service and experience should be. I can’t wait to return again. FINAL WORD. Part of the Secret Pub Company who also own The Radcliffe and The Railway - both excellent and worth a visit.

Lunch at The Plough We've been meaning to try here for a while. We saw that they do an offer of 25% off A la Carte food if you pre-book during February so we couldn't resist 😉 Starters Creamed leeks on toast with Stilton Duck liver parfait Mains Grilled Sea Bream Roast Cornish Cod Dessert Rhubarb & Lemon Trifle It was all delicious 😋 and we could only manage one dessert between us. The service was very friendly and professional, well worth a visit. Lovely pub in a lovely setting. They also do a set lunch menu 2 course £17 - 3 course £21
