We stumbled across this delightful little place when looking for somewhere to have a coffee and enjoy the rare British summer sun. On arrival at the bistro you are led up a private road where the bistro as well as it's counterpart 'Carriage Hall' are situated amongst the scenic countryside views. The bistro has ample parking which we were surprised for on a Saturday and plenty of outdoor seating. The decor of the bistro has a warm and welcoming feel and retains the train station characteristics of it's former life. Once we had a quick glance at the menu we decided stay for a bite to eat. The staff were very friendly and attentive during our visit and the food was delicious. For £24 each for a 2 course meal it was worth every penny. I'd definitely recommend the sea bass with samphire and clam chowder (10/10). When speaking to the waitress Jane she informed us that it was unusually quiet for a Saturday and that a wedding was on at the neighboring venue but our luck was in as the Euro's kept everyone occupied at home. After our meal we enjoyed our coffees outside to enjoy the stunning view which was as peaceful as you could hope for. We can't wait for the next visit and will definitely be coming back for the themed...
Read moreA great all round restaurant. We like to go somewhere that you are guaranteed great quality food with great service at a very reasonable price. This gem has been hidden since 1982. A family owned bar and bistro housed in a beautifully restored railway station. They serve a mix of retro comfort classics and med inspired dishes with locally sourced ingredients
Once seated you are brought water and freshly baked bread to nibble on whilst you peruse the menu. For lunch,it's two courses £26 or three courses £32. We started with a couple of very nice cocktails. Pineapple & coconut mojito £8.95 Cherry, amaretto sour £9.95
For starters we chose Crab, apple & salmon tian and Sun blush tomato & brie arancini.
Main choices of Slow braised blade of beef and the other Roast fillet of cod. Both cooked to perfection.
Desserts were Perkins tiramisu and Sticky toffee pudding it is then. To finish, a couple of Irish coffees.
With consistently excellent food and service, there's no surprise the whole restaurant was full on a midweek lunchtime. They also do themed evenings which are really good value with excellent menus where booking...
Read moreWhat a lovely place Perkins Bar & Bistro has become - it's been a very long time since I was here - I came to Perkins a couple of weeks after it opened in 1982 - back then it was a wee bit basic compared to the really smart establishment it is now.
Staff were really nice and attentive and service was perfect. Not too much fuss which is nice.
Food was very good - loved the duck spring rolls starter, which we both had (hoisin sauce maybe next time?). My wife had sea bass which was superb, and I went for battered haddock, chips and pea puree, which was lovely, the only small criticism I have was the battered haddock came with a load of salt crystals scattered on top, which, because the batter was hot and slightly tacky, it was difficult to remove all the salt so I had to discard a few pieces of the delicious batter. Surely you could leave extra seasoning to the customer?
Otherwise, a really, really lovely lunch, and yes we will for sure come back - and not leave it so long next time (long time before was because I moved to London...
