Cup and Crumb is a beautiful little cafe with a “hygge” atmosphere with a post office inside. The cakes on offer are delicious and my daughter likes them. The special nights with the travelling kitchen the food was wonderful too, however they were small portions when compared to the cost. The girls behind the counter seem nice, and like other reviews say, they do not give much acknowledgment when you walk in, but I think that is because they’re busy. Also, some people prefer not to be acknowledged when walking in to a place. One massive downside of this cafe is the size, which I realise cannot be adapted. It does not make pram and wheelchair access easy. This is often made more difficult as the cafe is visited by people who bring their dog along, so they are often taking floor space too, and may I add, I have seen them on the furniture too. It is unpleasant to think that dogs that have been walking on the pavement, or toileting outside, are sitting on chairs that people will be using-while eating. The toilet is clean and is suitable for those who require wheelchair access. As for those with autism, the cafe can be loud and crowded so there is risk of overwhelm. On balance, there is outdoor seating which can be used on a sunny day. There is no designated parking for this cafe, which means if you are sat outside, prepare for the view of the green to be blocked by a wall of cars, some of which park blatantly on the yellow lines outside the cafe. The cup and crumb is good overall, it is a central point of the community and has a charming atmosphere. The cafe looks beautiful-inside and out. That said, it is expensive (but this is the case everywhere now), and small, meaning those who need space to manoeuvre will find visiting here difficult. I’m certain however that if anyone had any difficulties whilst visiting the staff would go above and beyond to...
Read moreBad experience here. Waiting staff watched us look at the menu and specials at the counter and decide what we were going to eat, only to then tell us that the kitchen had just closed at 15:20 (this was Saturday and they close at 5). Odd time to close for a 5pm closing and the fact that they’d just closed the kitchen, the staff could have warned us just as we walked in to get our order in quick rather than smile and watch us dither about which toasty to have and miss the window. It was so close that we saw orders coming out of the kitchen.
We were hungry and had just had a long walk around RHS Bridgwater and hadn’t managed to eat there because of massive queues at their cafes, so we’re a bit desperate and we’re looking forward to something nice at what looks like a lovely cafe nearby!
If I was this business, I would have pushed the boundary a little and done a few toasties rather than a harsh nope from the kitchen.
Then when I ordered a sausage roll (which could be offered as it only needed heating in the microwave), it was served to me on the table in a paper bag with no plate or napkin. It was a lovely sausage roll, but a bit of common sense wouldn’t have hurt.
Staff are lovely (but need some training), but this operation gave me the impression they’re disorganised and inflexible and I won’t be...
Read moreIn a world where small businesses often complain of declining trade, customer service and hospitality need to be at the forefront. Unfortunately, Cup n Crumb seems to have missed this message. When you walk in, you are greeted with blank expressions rather than a friendly “Hi, how are you?” It’s the little things like that which make a small, intimate location feel welcoming.
We have visited several times, and this lack of warmth seems to be the standard. On the occasion that prompted this review, we ordered sausages on white bread. It came out on a barm. To be fair to the waitress, she noticed a hair on the barm and took it back. However, it was then served on toast. We reminded her that we had asked for it simply on bread. It took three attempts to get a basic sausage sandwich right. There was no apology, nothing.
I feel customer service in the UK is declining, and it is the responsibility of small businesses like Cup n Crumb to buck that trend and start offering genuine hospitality. The sandwich on this occasion is not the main issue. It’s just the lack of any personality from the staff that screams “transaction, not...
