I found this place on a google search and was excited to explore with my baby. I was not disappointed. There are numerous places to park on the road side (free).
The forest comprises of multiple paths going in different directions and you will find bridges, walkways, ponds, streams and ample benches. There is a lake near the Aviary with swans, ducks & Canadian geese.
Many of the pathways are tarmac or flattened and easy to walk along. Some are pram friendly but others may not be, depending on the weather. There is a park within the forest for children and the surrounding trees should provide some cover from sun or rain.
The loopline towards Roe Green (approx. 1km) could take you as far as Walkden. The opposite way will take you to Monton (1.8km). This is a wide tarmac walkway, suitable for prams, dogs and bikes. I wouldn't say wheelchairs, as I saw steps at Monton and various other spots that lead onto the loopline.
I followed a pathway down from the Monton loopline which took me to Alder Forest and walked back up to the loopline, for a change of scenery. There are a few exits from the forest that lead onto the main road, where the green monument is, The Delph restaurant, the dry docks and the Horsebox Coffee spot. It's a nice walk along the canal with many beautiful old century homes.
I recommend the Horsebox, as the service is very friendly, accepts card, offers dairy free milk and vegan treats. Situated on one side of the canal bridge and very picturesque scenery. The Delph offers coffee, although they use an automated machine so it didn't...
Read moreWorsley Woods is great for a walk at any time of year. I'd say it's probably not particularly wheelchair friendly as there's many steps and woodland rough paths. That said, nearby village, the village green and canal side paths are accessible. The woods aren't massive, but they are well established and features The Delph, where you can see the entrance to the underground canal tunnel system which you can learn about elsewhere online. This is currently undergoing refurbishment so it will be interesting to see what they bring. The canal around the woods and through the village of worth a stroll, and looking at the old Tudor style buildings and cottages completes a lovely scene. There's a play area to be found in the woods, a reservoir, and small rivers and streams. As it's our local means of seeing some decent green nature, we go lots...
