Extremely disappointed with my first and last visit.

Arrived and were met with an overpowering smell of bleach. Was told that it had been very busy last niy, it had been left a mess and they had waited until midday to clean it.

I informed them my wife was allergic to bleach and asked them if it was common practice to use it in a food area and around the public. Manager said yes. Informed him it could be extremely dangerous to pregnant women and that it is actually illegal to use in these situations. Manager didn't know this.

Floor was still wet and my elderly mother nearly slipped. The waiter actually did slip later on

My elderly mother needed to use the toilet but unfortunately it was up to two narrow steep flights of stairs. Asked if there was disabled access instead and was told no, any disabled customers would have to use a toilet elsewhere!!

The meat in the main course was processed but I'd given up by this point.

I feel awful for the low score as the owner is very friendly and was lovely to our children but I was very disappointed with the food. This is our 2nd time dining here. The garlic bread with cheese had no garlic taste and was dry. The ribs (big portion) but had a tiny bit of sauce. Mains were bland and one of our family members lamb looked raw. The deserts were lovely. The restaurant smelt damp when we walked in and it was absolutely freezing to a point some of our table had to put their coats on. Service started off well but then on 3 occasions we asked for drinks and 1 was missing or they totally forgot to bring the drinks. Due to this a couple on the table decided to slow down drinking instead of feeling comfortable to carry on drinking. The desert order complete and we asked for a Cappuccino and 2 Macchiatos and the young lady came back within a minute and said I’m really sorry but the machine isn’t working. We usually come here for a guaranteed great steak but today we thought we’d try the new roast that they have brought out on Sundays. You have a choice between two meats that the restaurant have decided for the day so we chose one with half chicken and one with beef. There are also vegetarian options always available. When the food came, it looked deceiving in size. However, it was much larger than we thought. The meat was cooked perfectly and the half chicken was big and juicy. The Chef replaced standard Yorkshire puddings for multiple savoury doughballs and they were incredible. Such a nice addition to the plate.
