It’s a joy to support local businesses during my travels. The restaurant in Boat of Garten came highly recommended by my local friends and we were keen to try it. Do make a reservation as it’s highly popular.
On the day itself, due to a change of plans, I called the restaurant to change our timing. The guy who answered my call (I later found out it was the talented chef Jordan) was so friendly and accommodating that it certainly set a sunshine vibe even before we arrived.
The warmth continued when we arrived at the restaurant and was welcomed by Sean. He was attentive throughout the evening ensuring patrons were comfortable and enjoying their meals. Patient in answering our queries too.
The menu is creative and sounds enticing with lots to choose from. We decided to skip the starters to leave room for desserts.
Occasionally I will crave for pizza and when I do, I like a great one. Saw that the restaurant is also well known for its pizzas (you can order takeaways). Best of all, it’s sourdough dough base that they use which takes a lot more effort to prepare. Wide selection to choose from. We finally settled on The Vincenzo which is Garlic Oil Base, Salami Napoli, Haggis, Wild Mushroom, Buffalo Mozzarella, Parmesan. It tasted even better than it sounds! Definitely lived up to its reputation for great delicious pizzas. The ingredients used were quality and the sourdough base was delicious.
For the other main, we chose the Lamb Rump which came Creamed Cabbage with Fresh Mint & Arran Mustard Dauphinoise Potatoes, Red Wine Jus. Another delicious dish!
For desserts, we had the Pineapple-Collada which is Nutty Cream Parfait, Sous Vide Soaked Pineapple, Caramel Sauce, Chocolate & Hazelnut Ice Cream. Also a scoop of pistachio ice cream (difficult decision to stick to one scoop given the extensive list of flavors!). Delicious again!
The talented Jordan and his team certainly lived up to their brand promise on the website: “At Anderson’s we are committed to using local Scottish produce when it is in season. Each dish is lovingly prepared and bought together in such a way as to bring out the very best of truly great, fresh ingredients. Although our menu is creative, our aim is simple, to present you with food that we are confident you will enjoy, and that tastes fantastic.”
We’re certain that all the other dishes on the menu are equally well thought out and lovingly prepared with quality fresh ingredients.
For us, it is also a bonus that the restaurant is a non-dog area. Such a refreshing change. Instead, pawrents can use the picnic tables outside.
If you’re driving, please note the parking is at the nearby church. Just a short walk away.
Highly recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting the area. It is certainly worth driving to!
Thanks Jordan, Sean and the rest of the team for a lovely evening with brilliant service and the most...
Read moreAverage food, horrible staff - prepare to be body shamed.
We went as a group of 5, and were sat 2 on each side of the table and my father at the head. My father is a slightly larger man.
The lady in charge of the place kept making a huge deal of not being able to get past him, making faces behind his back and rolling her eyes (I thought I’d imagined it but when my mother mentioned she’d seen it too, I realised it was a real issue) and eventually telling him twice that she had no room to get past, alluding to the fact that he was too large and in the way, even though there was plenty of room. My father felt so embarrassed for the rest of the night and we all felt extremely awkward for him.
Drinks: warm beer and weak cocktails.
Food: okay, though the mussels were cold and EXTREMELY salty.
Service: the lady in charge was very rude; having already made my father feel embarrassed, when asked what on the menu she’d recommend, she sarcastically suggested to pick something we liked the look of. Her whole demeanour the entire evening was sarcastic, balshy, and as if she was fed up of being there. The male waiter was also very grumpy. The other waitress was nice and friendly.
Before we’d finished our dessert/drinks, we were brought the bill without having asked for it - another cue for us to leave. Reading other reviews, it looks like bad service is a common theme here.
Environment: there were flies flying around everywhere, resting on the table and we were constantly having to waft them away. No music or atmosphere other than being made to feel like you were in the way and a nuisance.
Summary: the food and menu looked very promising, but sadly the drinks, atmosphere and way we were treated totally ruined our evening and we were left shocked at how rude the manager was. They’re clearly doing well as they appear to be fully booked (possibly as they’re one of the only restaurants in the area), so maybe they’ve gotten too big for their boots and think they’ve earned the right to treat...
Read moreWe were there a week ago and the experience was awful. After two weeks travelling around Scotland and this was the worst by far. We arrived a 19.30 and though there were several free tables they asked to come back one hour later. They assured it was ok to have dinner at that time. We decided to wait even if we could have gone to Aviemore just 10 minutes away with plenty restaurants.
We showed up one hour later and after the first moment we felt most unwelcome. I know I should have left but with two hungry kids we stayed. They rushed us to order, not giving us enough time to decide, then they continuosly rushed us to finish even there were three tables still waiting for the dishes.
Finally we were going to order the dessert but the waitress and the manager exchanged some unaudible conversations that made us want to leave, without ordering anything else.
I wouldn't recommend it, maybe if you go without kids they will treat you better. The food can't taste good if you aren't...
