Bankton House could so easily be a 5 star. It just managed to scrape past a 3 star for me because of its gorgeous rooms and lovely garden. Principal problem was no breakfast. Secondary problem was a lack of obvious signage explaining hotel access, tea and coffee making facilities. I woke very early in serious need of tea and breakfast due to a gastrointestinal medical problem I have. Had to pack my bag and take it with me in case I got locked out as there was no front door key. Then had to find someplace for tea and food. Ended up in a Greggs in Livingston Centre which was a lifesaver. On my return, I was locked out and the cleaner didn’t answer the door. I rang the nail clinic which has a ground floor office in the hotel and they gave me the door code. Little details which caused big problems and are so easily sorted. What should Bankton House do? If it can’t supply breakfast on site it needs to tell customers what’s available off site at check in. And it needs to sort its check in information on room facilities, front door management etc Would I go back? Yes. Only because I know the avoidable flaws and pitfalls!

Awful from the poor reception to the poor bar staff I was shown to a "garden chalet" more like a painted shed. See photos. Small dirty room. See pics I ate in the bar. Not good. But I had to eat. Member of staff asked how things were so I told her. .. OMG She went nuts shouted at me.. told me to leave the hotel after I showed her the pics I had taken. I actually had to call the police. She wanted me to leave because I didn't like the hotel . Frozen veg. Frozen pie filling .... Frozen everything... šŸ¤—šŸ˜šŸ¤©šŸ˜˜šŸ˜ mouldy windows ... see pics lots of dirt look at my pics. I had to call the police as one manager went to grab my phone from me police reference number is 3772/28/05 ask me about pics if you need too.

Loved our first visit here. We sat in the conservatory which was lovely! Nice chill vibes and overall lively place to sit and eat. The 2 women who served us were lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. We were provided with a free bottle of water even after we bought drinks. The food was to die for. Some of the best king prawns around! The steak pie was fantastic. So much meat and it literally broke apart on the fork. My partner ordered the chicken balmoral and cheesecake and both were lovely. My brownie was good also. Will be back.

When I booked there was a debacle created by the management - THEY are the ones who suggested I pay via PayPal if I wanted to use AMEX - then asked me to pay their £7.55 merchant fees?! Hotel postcode took me to the back of the hotel was redirected around the houses eventually to the front. Stayed in their 'Poppy' room in the main building, business traveller rate supposed to include a hot cooked breakfast (which I was told on arrival isn't served until after 9, or 9.30 am, felt like they are making it up as they go along). Room fills up with smell of rancid burning cooking/frying oil so I didnt unpack my case, and shouting can be heard through the floor. Electrical appliance tests are way past due according to their plug stickers. I accept this is an old house but therefore electrical safety is important. 1 single sachet of coffee surrounded by empty wrappers in the tea tray plus ripped/used tourism magazines. My laptop screen is larger than the TV screen provided in the room. Curtains are just blackout liners, wardrobe falling apart, in my opinion its a cheap makeover and way overpriced. I asked for some basic elements of a continental breakfast and was told they could 'leave a toaster and some bread out in the room downstairs'. I asked for yoghurt and honey and ham n pastry I got yoghurt, grapes and some seeds. They told me that this 'what happens in most of Scotland'. And 'theres no one to come in early to cook breakfast I already work 12 hrs a day'. Having travelled extensively throughout Scotland I fully understand when there are staff shortages. I have stayed in a similar georgian house in Paisley where the proprietor herself cooked all the breakfast covers. I have stayed in places that provide breakfast grab bags, cake-boxes containing complete continental breakfasts, or simply refunded me for last-minute changes but I have never come across a situation where I felt unwelcome and not well-accomodated-for in line with the package that was booked. Fancy offering rooms for business travellers but then not serving any cooked breakfast until after 9.30. To me it felt like a non-offer offer. It must've killed them when I remembered to ask for my complimentary glass of prosecco because it was not handed-over hospitably, no welcoming chatter by the barstaff. I feel that staff and management prioritise the needs of their evening dinner guests in their restaurant to guests staying in their rooms. Because I felt this atmosphere I decided to eat out both evenings they clearly did not need my custom. From the management responses I have read here, I doubt they will take anything but another defensive stance to negative feedback they receive. All I will say is that for the reasons cited above I will never ever...

Me and my husband visited the Bankton House Bistro for our anniversary a couple of weeks ago and I had to write a review to say how consistently excellent the place is. We've been for a few evening meals before which were so well made and fresh. This time we visited at lunch time and once again, the food was just so good. It was fish and chips but I have to say it's one of the best I've had so far: the fish was fresh, flaky and perfectly cooked in a thin crispy batter, with chunky 'proper' chips and peas and tartar sauce. The other great thing is they offer small and large portions. I had the small portion which was big in itself - very generous. I followed this with a limoncello tartufo (ice cream bomb made from lemon ice cream with lemon curd in the middle and rolled in lemon meringue - just lovely.|The atmosphere is so chilled out in the bistro (with the option of sitting in the cosy conservatory). They play easy going favourites and I could imagine it'll be lovely there at Christmas to get you in the mood. We've visited the pub before in the hotel and it's a typical country-style cosy pub - all quirky niches and a log burner for the winter nights. Service excellent as always and good value for money.|If you haven't been already, try it out, it feels like it's out of the way nestled in the woodland but is literally just across the road from Livi South...

We visted with friends on June 29th for dinner. First of all I wish to say that we really enjoyed our visit and will defintely return. This is a lovely restaurant and great value for money. I leave the following feedback in the hope that it will improve further and be an amazing dining experience.|1) If serving room temperature Rose wine (in a cooler granted but room temp nontheless) please check with the customers that they are happy with this in case they would prefer an alternative that is chilled. I think it's safe to say most people expect Rose wine to be chilled when served.|2) In my experience a Caesar salad always has croutons. Again if none available please let the customer know.|3) Cocktails are good value however my Pina Colada just tasted like Pineapple Juice. If the alcohol measure is small maybe include less pineapple juice so it can be tasted - or increase the price and alcohol content. The feedback from others in my group was that their choices of cocktail (espresso martini) was also not very good. Something to work on I think.||Please take this feedback in the spirit it is intended. We want to come back and will come back and it would be great if the experience could be even...
