I had an absolutely delightful experience at The Buttercup Cafe in Doune, and I can't wait to return! From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted by the warm, friendly atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The waiter was exceptionally welcoming and genuinely kind, offering top-notch service with a smile, which really made the experience stand out.
The water was surprisingly delicious—clear, crisp, and refreshing, which I know may seem like a small detail, but it really stood out and added to the overall enjoyment of my visit. It’s clear that the cafe goes above and beyond to ensure every little detail is perfect.
As for the food, the tray bakes were simply delectable! Each one was beautifully made, perfectly sweet, and so satisfying. You could taste the care and quality in every bite. Whether you're a fan of something rich and indulgent or a lighter treat, they have something for everyone, and I found myself wishing I could try every option on the menu!
The cafe itself has such a cozy, homely feel—warm lighting, inviting decor, and a relaxed vibe that makes it the perfect spot to unwind. It was a peaceful escape, and I couldn’t have felt more comfortable sitting down to enjoy my food. It's the kind of place that feels like a hidden gem, a real local treasure.
If you're in the Doune area, I highly recommend stopping by The Buttercup Cafe. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a longer visit, you're guaranteed a wonderful experience. I’ll definitely be returning soon, and I’m already looking forward to...
Read moreLovely spot. Been coming for a while. Superbly cooked and tasty food and fantastic gluten free options, as well as the best gluten free scones anywhere. Owner is lovely and super helpful. Staff aren’t always as friendly. Also a little forgetful: twice given the wrong hot drink when taking away. And when taking a friend for coffee last year, scones were a bit cold. When they were returned heated up, the scones had been put back on the wrong plates with the gluten free scone sitting on a bed of wheat/gluten scone crumbs (my friend had sliced open her scone). Staff member didn’t appear to understand the significance of this mistake when it was pointed out. Even though my friend’s jam and butter was also on the plate and my plate had been plain. So we dealt with it ourselves, asking for a fresh plate and napkin, wiping off the crumbs from the base of the gluten free scone. Table service is efficient. Some of the staff need to smile and be a bit more switched on. But then it’s been really hard for the hospitality industry to get staff post pandemic and Brexit. Very well run café and opening times are regular. Lovely atmosphere, interior, and also outside seating in the courtyard. A staple of Doune, this restaurant was recommended and largely hasn’t...
Read moreNew waitress was untrained and in the weeds. Fumbled where to seat us. Took our order 10-15 mins after we were seated (4 of us), wrote it down and double-checked the order, then apparently rewrote it and forgot to write 2 of the 4 of our meals down the 2nd time. Appetizers came, then 2 of our orders almost an hour later came from a kitchen runner. The other 2 orders never came and server never came to check on us at all. When we found server (had to look for her with empty water pitcher in hand to ask about our food and get more water bc server never came back after taking our initial order), we inquired where the rest of our food was and she told us she forgot to rewrite them and asked if we still wanted them. Manager/owner(?) made our food up and took both meals off our bill, incl drinks. Total time spent there for lunch, approx 90 minutes. Both waitress and manager very apologetic of course. Food...
