This is a restaurant offering really good food with great portions. On a first visit we got off to a bad start, admittedly , on a very arguable point which i very quickly brought to a conclusion by simply drawing a line under it. We arrived shortly before 5pm.after visiting Chatelherault country park.Ok we don't know the place, so we approach a desk, ask for a table and are asked to move back to a waiting area to await a waitress to show us to a table. I cannot prove how long this took. What i do know was at 5.08 pm we were sitting looking at the menu first page which offered a 2 course meal at £10.95 Choices were good and we asked for Soup and steak pie. A staff member pointed out small print at the page bottom stating that this deal finished at 5pm. Its pointless arguing that we felt we were in the restaurant admittedly shortly before 5pm. as Staff member disagreed about our arrival time. We didn't know the times but just felt a little kind discretion could have been excercised for two 73 yr old pensioners. So the meal cost me £ 15 extra Rules are rules, so its a moot point i cannot prove🙄 2☆ for atmosphere is because this must be one of the most noisy restaurants i have ever been in. Ok, we quickly realised that this is a family oriented establishment. Tonight it was full of screaming kids and i mean ear piercingly screaming. I do not wish to be accused of being mean on a second count but my problem is in these modern times, parents typically showing a complete lack of control or any concern for other diners. I appreciate it is very difficult but it is even more difficult to enjoy your meal in such circumstances. The Steak pie was truly excellent, as was the soup. After our initial affray, staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. In conclusion i would say we were in the right place at the wrong time 🥺Que Sera.

Been waiting ages now to get the regular menu as it was limited during covid. Had the lamb shank which was fantastic as always, the market vegetables were broccoli, cauliflower cheese, carrot and turnip. Very filling, cooked to perfection and great tasting. My friend had the pate starter and sweet and sour chicken main; which was crispy chicken with a great tangy sweet and sour sauce. Wish they would do a fried rice with the sweet and sour instead of pilau. And my friend got the lemon cheesecake however was disappointed as it had no taste of lemon. However we are here often and food is good with a great selection to chose from and large portions. Pricing is reasonable too. Good place to come for a couple or even a large group.

Brought a friend here, who was visiting from Japan, as we have eaten in the restaurant before and that time we were both happy with our meals (although service was a bit slow, it was not an excessive amount of time).

This visit, we decided to try the lunch menu in the bar. I ordered the macaroni cheese and my husband and our friend ordered the fish and chips. We waited 25 minutes before asking if there was a problem with our orders.

The pasta in my macaroni was quite stodgy and overcooked. The cheese on top was baked for too long and as a result, there was a thick layer of hard crust that I had to remove to get to the slightly more edible layer underneath. I really did not enjoy it at all.

My husband said that his battered fish had as much batter as fish. The very few chips on the plate were undercooked and there was only about a teaspoonful of peas. He said it looked like a child's size portion.

Our guest was too polite to say anything, but we were both embarrassed and let down by this sub-par lunch. We understand that they are keeping within a set price for each menu choice, but serving food as bad as this is a false economy and it only succeeds in losing out on repeat business.

Much better to offer a simpler lunch menu and do it well, within the budget, than to offer resaurant style meals that are far too meagre portion wise and not prepared properly. Perhaps they should just stick to sandwiches/wraps and similar choices, that are easier and quicker to prepare and not as likely to be so poorly made. All in all, quite a let down. There are too many other dining options in Hamilton, to settle for this disappointing level of...

When we arrived it felt like an inconvenience to be seated (we had booked for 4 people for 2.15). Gentleman who seated us was behaving like he couldn't be bothered. Server who came to take our drink order was pleasant enough. She came back to take our food order (3 main courses and 1 kids meal) and again was pleasant enough. Fast forward 50 minutes and still no sign of the meals. My mum went to chase it up and was told "sorry we have a function on upstairs and another function in the function room, so we're really busy". About 10 minutes after that our food arrived. I ordered the cajun chicken which tasted of nothing. It was just bland. No servers came near that end of the restaurant for a good half hour so I couldn't send it back. My sister managed to get somones attention to order more drinks and he couldn't even make eye contact with us when he was taking our order. We decided to get some desserts and had to call someone over in order to get someone to take the order. Again this might seem normal to some people but by this point we had not seen any servers for almost an hour. They literally avoided the area we were seated in. I then had to go to bar in order to collect the bill myself as no one was around. Bar staff told me someone would bring the bill to me and I explained no one had been near us, so they gave me the bill. We paid and left. We were all in agreement that due to the service (or lack of) we will not be going back to Carrigans. We felt like an inconvenience from the minute we arrived. The servers (except the young lady who took our food and drink order) couldn't care less and generally seemed like they didn't want...
