Chatelherault Inn — Restaurant in Scotland

Took my 80 year old mum in, young girl took us to a table that was wonky, she tried for about five minutes to stick stuff under it before moving us to another table ,only another table in so don’t know why she didn’t just do that to start with, this one had mud all under the table so sat with my seat away from the table. My mum has a small appetite so she asked for half a bowl of soup and a ham toastie, she was told she would be charged for a full bowl which we said wasn’t a problem, I found a brush and shovel to clear the mud up when the young girl came over and said” here and I’ll get that for you doll”, she comes back ten minutes later she comes out with my mums food,a full bowl of soup and a toastie, chef said just eat what you can, we’ll that’s great chef but when we ask for half a bowl how about giving us half a bowl, firstly it’s a waste,secondly it’s not what she asked for and thirdly it’s annoying, she has tremors and her hands shake terribly so she doesn’t like it being so full incase she accidentally knocks it over, lots of people may ask for a small bowl for a child who they are trying to let the child feed themselves so when a customer asks for something perhaps just do what they ask. Was extremely happy to leave,must admit though that another member of staff was just starting as we were leaving,older than the young girl and she was lovely,lovely smile on her face,just a shame we hadn’t been served by her. *WARNING BEFORE BOOKING FUNCTION ROOM * If you have booked or going to book don't assume it's garenteed, we booked many weeks ago paid our deposit we were told everything was fine. We stopped in for dinner a few times checked with the girl it was in the diary , she checked infront of us we saw our name was the only one in it for our date. We had a meeting with the boss lady couple of weeks ago to discuss buffet dj etc, told again all will be fine. Now out of nowhere on Wednesday we got a call to say she had double booked 🤬 and they had been in at the weekend , so it took till the Wed to call us. She told my wife that they were locals and regulars, seems to us she took this as a better offer, she also tried to pass the blame to one of her staff not realising we saw the diary.We had specially made invites and a cake booked , she had the cheek to offer us the Friday, mybe she was thinking extra money 🤔. She didn't care one bit that with limited time we would struggle to get booked elsewhere. No apology when I collected our deposit refund, no offer of paying for ruined invites. Had my wedding reception here last Friday and it was amazing, we asked to decorate the hall the day before and Ann the owner was completely fine with it, the food was amazing and so flavourful and the DJ was amazing too, made me and my wife really happy with picking here as we were not sure and Ann had helped us the full way with the reception. If I had anything negative to say, I would but there is nothing negative here, the barmaids are polite and extremely helpful. And the chef's were amazing as well. I will definitely come back here for a meal some point with my wife and possibly even have our anniversaries here. Amazing 10/10 service and everything else ranging from cheap drinks and amazing food.
