We came to this cafe today for some lunch , 2 kids , 2 adults and a dog . We saw on the website it states ;
We strive to create a warm and friendly atmosphere with both indoor & outdoor seating, free wifi and full disabled access. Children and dogs are very welcome, please ask the team for childrenâs activities or doggy snacks!
When we arrived and settled down I went up to order the food . When ordering i asked what cold drinks do You have and was told - itâs on the menu. Wow ! Having worked in hospitality for many years thatâs not the typical response . I didnât find that friendly . We all ordered the sausage rolls. To be fair they were nice but I think it needs to be clear that these are mini sausage rolls not an actual full sausage roll. We noted when we were sitting there the staff were very friendly to the locals , very chatty and also speaking to the dogs . No one spoke to us apart from when I ordered . I also had to ask for the sausage roll to be heated the woman looked like I had really annoyed her by this and so when I asked for tomato sauce I was met with âIâll have to check â .
We ate our food after spending around ÂŁ22 for 4 mini sausage rolls ( 1 with salad and crisps ) 2 cans of san pellegrino And 2 cartons of apple juice and a soup.
We got up to leave and not one member of staff said thank you or goodbye as they had done with everyone else .
Maybe itâs just a cafe for locals. In East Lothian we are spoiled for choice so we know we have many other excellent cafes and we most definitely will not be back and will...
   Read moreThere are a lot of cafés {as well as golf courses} in Gullane. My preferred café is the Cherish Vintage Tearoom where the staff are always friendly. This may not be the "trendy" place to go but the coffee, cakes and scones are good quality and great value.
For example, the café don't list macchiato but after a brief description they produced one of the best around Edinburgh. And yes, I did order a second and yes, it was as good as the first.
We also ordered a chocolate banana cake which looked lush of chocolate. The taste of banana came through giving a nice balance of flavour; good enough for the whole slice to disappear rapidly. Next time we may try one of the grand looking scones or even the home made soup which had been recommended by the people sitting next to us.
Roll on our next walk...
   Read moreWonderful. We took my mother for afternoon tea for her 84th birthday and it was a real treat. Lovely experience with great sandwiches, scones and a selection of cakes. Tea and coffee in chinaware tea cups too, with refills. Very friendly, attentive and helpful service. The afternoon tea was so good that my mother and wife declared it was the best ever. That is some praise as they've been to many places for afternoon tea over the years. Very affordable price and our various dietary requirements were dealt with thoughtfully and helpfully in the booking process - do book in advance for that help. The front of Cherish has obviously suffered from some damage recently but don't let that put you off. It is well worth the tiny bit extra walk away from the main...
