We wanted to visit Columba 1400, being interested in the concept of what is being done here to help young people, and decided to have dinner here while staying in a hotel nearby. The whole experience was delightful. We were warmly welcomed by the manager, who seemed to be everywhere all at once, extending the same excellent hospitality towards all of his guests. The centre of the room was filled with a large table where lots of happy youngsters were enjoying their evening meal, which added to the convivial atmosphere. We were seated at a table for two in the bow window, looking out over the dramatically beautiful sight of darkness falling over the Quiriang. On a chilly October evening, I chose macaroni cheese - served with a plentiful salad, coleslaw and chips - and my partner had steak pie. Portions were generous ( I needed help to finish mine) and the food was delicious. The young staff were as friendly and helpful as the manager. I would certainly recommend this as the place to eat if ever you...
Read moreWe visited Columba 1400 cafe last evening. The canteen- style layout belied some interesting looking main course menu options and the place was quite busy to the extent that we were fortunate to get a table (a few groups who arrived shortly after us had to wait a while to be seated). My wife chose the beef lasagne, which was a hearty plateful, piping hot and served with chips and salad, which more than satisfied her. I decided to go for the chicken curry, served with rice and a couple of mini naan breads. There was plenty of chicken and it was well cooked but the curry itself was very disappointing, being both bland and lacking in any texture. The rice was also pretty uninspiring. The diners round about seemed to be satisfied with their choices though, as was my wife. If we go back, I will give the chicken curry a miss and order something else. The young servers were bright and cheerful, everything was bright and clean and on the whole the customer experience was a...
Read moreI was here around 2006/07 as a youg man involved with young carers, as I was a young carer. It was a team building course for one week, which was one of the best experiences. I was lucky enough to go back for an additional week, but it was different, as I went back myself as a young man, but also I had to spend the full week with adults, bank managers to be precise. This was a team building course too. This second experience, really broke down barriers with ideas, and stereotypes that young men might think higher qualified, or people in high position can be very intimidating, or possibly the way bank managers seen young men. These were 2 experiences that will stay with me forever. I will be up visiting with my son this summer, I will look forward to the memories of kyacking in the lochs, and climbing the surrounding hills and mountains. As. I recall, the man who led the courses, was a man...
