Could not believe how rude one of the waitresses was. Before even being seated and been given a menu we were asked what we would like to drink. Already felt very rushed. When the waitress returned with our drinks we kindly asked if we could order in which we had the following barked at us "I've got other people to deal with". We both looked at each other and questioned if we should stay. We gave her the benefit of the doubt and stayed. Once our food arrived it was given to us by a different waitress who again was fairly rude by slamming the plates down on to the table. We noticed that the same waitress that put our food down repeatedly was wiping the table next to us, and came over three times to the same table to listen to what we were saying. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant before. Food was very disappointing and bland.

Once we had finished our meal we were sat for 15 minutes without our table being cleared. Bearing in mind there was probably three other tables in the restaurant at this time so was not busy whatsoever. We went up to the bar where we were repeatedly ignored by the first waitress that served us. After her walking past three times and ignoring us, my business partner asked politely if we could have the bill. She barked at him and said "I've got other things to do pal!". I have never been so tempted to walk out of somewhere without paying in my life. We then asked the second waitress if we could have the bill, in which she helped us.

Unfortunately the food caused upset stomachs and sickness.

I think Cook's Bar & Kitchen should really consider their staff and have a review of this vile and disgusting waitress. I was on a business trip and would definitely not recommend this place to anyone and would definitely not be...

We have just returned home from Cook’s bar & kitchen (6pm on Christmas Day 2024).

Very very disappointed is the best I can say about our experience, firstly when we arrived I stated that we had booked and paid for a table and were shown a table on the right, it was barely able to accommodate us, we had to slide in on the bench with the table uncomfortably close to our bodies, there was no table covering and no mats for drinks although we each received a thin paper menu sheet which listed the availability for food, very little choice but mainly a set menu. My Wife cannot eat onions so asked if there was any onion in any of the food on the menu, she was informed that onion was in everything. We ordered our drinks and every time we picked up the glass, we were dripped on as there was no mats, the meals arrived, I chose the traditional Christmas meal as did my guest and my wife chose the roast beef (without gravy, onions) the meals arrived after a while and were almost inedible, the turkey was dry and turned up at edges, the roast beef was cut the wrong way and vegetables, well should I say the lack of vegetables, two sprouts per plate (when Asda were selling the at 10p per bag). Then sweet, promised a traditional Christmas pudding, it arrived as a pre-set portion with some sort of sauce and a piece of ice cream.

The whole experience was dreadful, the decor was something out of Dickens and the staff looked bedraggled and not in any uniform.

Will NOT be back.

I do NOT...

We attended this restaurant due to staying at the hotel for a wedding. There were 13 of us booked in in advance. The service was shockingly slow (over 1 hour from ordering until we received our starters). The food we all agreed was average of taste and presentation. The staff only came to us twice during the whole 2.5 hours we were there to take drink orders. A few went up to the bar to request drinks to be met with “we will come over” which was not received. After our starters it was another 20 minutes until our main meal. They took a while to remove empty plates after finishing as well. Two of us went to find the complaints procedure to discover there was not one - we simply had to discuss this with a waitress. We acknowledged this was not directly the waitresses or chefs fault but more the lack of extras to work when it was a busy night. Sadly we were disappointed and all 13 of us will not be returning to this restaurant due to the length of time it took to serve. I asked for a resolution to this and was met with nothing so requested at least a discount off our £300+ bill which we thankfully got. Sadly would not recommend booking here if you are staying in the hotel with al large group. A real shame as it looked a...

Came to Cooks bar for dinner for the first time. Pre booking was easy and an ample amount of parking available. Arriving I saw a rustic character building with a seasoning of modern touches. Upgraded well however the decor was not to my taste. I felt its decor was disconnected from its historic stature but very clean, warm and welcoming. The menu was vast, offering a nice selection however the steak (price per gram) did not specify where it came from but the black pudding, fish, prawn etc all specified where it came from. I didn't agree with charging extra for sauce that traditionally comes with that dish either. I ordered the fish which was delicious, but again I feel it was lacking it's value for money. Staff friendly and attentive but did need to be reminded about missing items which was strange as it was not busy. I would recommend it if you are looking for a nice meal out or a change from a pub meal.

While looking for somewhere to eat near the Kelpies we found Cooks on Google maps, after checking the reviews we booked a table (and also booked to stay in the linked hotel next door). The restaurant was about half full when we arrived and we were quickly seated. We ordered our drinks and food smoothly, and slight menu tweaks were accommodated with no issues (such as adding chicken to the roasted veg risotto). All the food was delicious, and service was timely but not rushed. The prices were very reasonable, including the bar/drinks prices. If we were in the area again I wouldn't hesitate to rebook.

The most disgusting meal we have had in Scotland. The chicken katzu was a piece of chicken about 2 to 3 mm thick covered in about 8 mm of some sort of batter/ crumb, deep fried. There was a sauce on it they called curry, well I would never have served that to a customer!! It was served with some extremely small portion of instant rice and a cheap shop bought piece of nam bread. How they let it leave the kitchen is beyond me!!! We ate it, and paid full price which in itself makes me sick. I am really disgusted that that is what they consider a decent meal to serve to paying guests!!
