I seldom write reviews since everythings seems to have already been said but in this case I am compelled to speak up. My wife and I were out exploring on or Highlands holiday and needed a wee stop. The Snack shack looked like an easy place to pull off but not to well for the wear, in fact I was a bit skeptical but time was of the essences so we gave it a shot. I'm sure we have all been to fancy 5 star places and had poor service and bad food and we have all found places that felt like one of the world's best kept secrets and the Snack Shack is very much the latter. It was clean as a whistle and the coffee (brewed) was just like I like it, strong but not harsh. What really blew me away however was a piece of Carrot Cake I bought in an effort to ring up something more than a coffee since we had both visited the WC. When we got back home later that evening my wife remeinded me we already had desert and broke out the carrot cake and OMG...!!!! I have had carrot cake from some of the best bakeries in the world but this is without question the best I have ever had...!!!! We are in Scotland for a month and even thought the Snack Shack is an hour away from where we are staying we are absolutly going back. Also, the breakfasts looked great. They say the local work crews know the real "Best Places" and this is the prof of it. The place had about a dozen serious road crew members all enjoying and early breakfast and they all looked great. Next time, we are going for the whole deal...LOL.
In short, don't pass the Snack Shack up, you will have missed a real find...!!! It don't look like much from the outside but it is not the cover that matters at the...
Read moreDon't stop here keep going and find somewhere else........ Such a shame as this could be real charming stop on your way through the Highlands. The staff are trying there best but are hamstring by the stupid management decisions. The front of house staff where nice and friendly. However the meals came as is and you can't change anything.
We where informed that they where only serving breakfast untill 12. That left 3 choices. We asked for fries for our 18 month old and where told no. I asked for extra toast for her instead. Where told no. The lady in front of us said she did not want beans, was told no she had to have as is. In the end I ordered the Scottish breakfast and two coffees which me and my wife shared. Food was not great but edible and hot. Coffee was disgusting from a push button machine. Cost was reasonable for the Highlands. The girl serving was kind and managed to make my daughter laugh and smile which was nice. The young lad at the till was polite but several times went back to the kitchen to have a very loud argument with the 'chef'!
The building itself was passable and seemed clean but very very dated. Think 1980s little chef!
Overall a poor experience. Will...
Read moreWe stopped off for a quick bite to eat. Having checked the other reviews beforehand , we were, quite frankly, a bit disappointed with the cafe.
The soup, though hot & plentiful, tasted like it had come straight from a tin. The accompanying bread was a single slice from a pan loaf. The three slices were served on a single side plate - we wondered if there was a dishwashing problem in the kitchen. There were no trays to carry the food to the table. The coffee was not the promised "great coffee" that was advertised outside.
Inside the cafe, the decor was tired and a bit clichéd. It's one of those places where every expense has been spared!
The tinny sound of the radio blasting out from the wall behind the only available table certainly did not add anything to the ambience.
The toilets clearly hadn't been updated since possibly the 1960s. One cubicle in the ladies was out of order. The lock on the door of the other a bit flimsy and the toilet seat loose. The one and hand dryer took ages to dry my hands.
There are so many cafes in Scotland that simply do things better.
On the up side, the young lad serving us was...
