My last morning in Scotland really delivered. From a beautiful sunrise to the views all the way to The Apiary. Then, an unforgettable feast (not all pictured) after quite some time feeling overwhelmed from whatever happened to my senses the moment we walked in. I started with a jacket potato with beans and cheese and added bacon and coleslaw for I think £1.5 - the spud comes with a small side salad so I adding the slaw wasn’t necessary if you’re on a budget. If you are on a budget, this is the place to treat it. Sweet potato and goat’s cheese pie up next. WOW. Like a roast dinner with buttery pastry. Is that what Yorkshire pudding is all about? Mind blown. My friend ordered the chorizo and chicken pastie which was a great touch of spice and flavour and what he would call a “cob” (I’d say roll) with Lorne sausage, bacon and a hash brown. Sun made an appearance and brightened up the already very welcoming cafe. Only thing I would have liked was to have been able to enjoy our pastries while the hot food was cooking. Felt like a bit of a tubby with all the food on the table, but like I said, this is the place to treat it. Friendly faces and great service, fire to stay warm & water dispenser to keep hydrated 💛 thanks guys!

Finally stopped off here on way home from Stirling. Great ambiance in the cafe. On entering I noticed the great light that comes into the space and the relaxed feeling it gave me after my journey. I was greeted warmly by the member of staff, and he explained there were no menus on the table but instead 2 big display boards with the day's offerings. There is also a hot cupboard with a great selection of pies and sausage rolls, and of course, the home baking selection. I went for the baked potato and an Earl Grey. I loved the presentation on the wooden board (although my sister if she had been there wouldn't). My only gripe (and I have this at most places) is that no saucer/dish was offered for the removal of the teabag from the teapot. If this could be offered, it would be a boon for us tea drinkers who don't like strong/stewed tea :-) It may have been my first visit, but it won't be my last. Thank you for being a great stopping point on my journey home.

Overall The Apiary is a great find, however there’s room for improvement. The eggs are always undercooked, I tried fried and scrambled on two different occasions, but always there is the gelatinous clear wobbly egg where the whites haven’t been cooked through which is really off putting. And on my last visit I ordered the full breakfast, asked to swap the bacon for mushroom not long after payment, I was told “no”, then waited for a long time for the meal to come out so I don’t know what the problem was. I didn’t finish my meal, and couldn’t eat the egg on my first visit because it was so undercooked.

We bought extras and enjoyed the space otherwise, but please better customer service, especially with rather high prices, and please cook your eggs properly.

Best tattie scones I’ve ever had though!

  • update after the cafe’s response * Both times I visited, the eggs were undercooked, whether fried or scrambled. Sunny side up eggs should still be cooked until the whites are set and the yolk still runny, this is common knowledge and your chef should know this. I like sunny side up eggs, it’s how I make them at home, but cooked properly.

As for changing the order, it was only a couple of minutes when I asked for the change, then we waited a long time for the food after that. And still, I don’t know why it was a problem to swap bacon for mushroom regardless. It’s still bad service.

But thanks for the somewhat patronising...

Amazing food and staff where really lovely, im not sure if its the owner or manager but she was so rude. We had our deaf dog with us and a chef gave us a bone for her and about 10 minutes later the manager came over saying she'd been told we had asked for a box of bones (we hadn't at all) but we wasn't getting them as its not how she feeds her dog and she isn't giving us anything. She gave us a lecture on how we should be feeding our dog and I'm all open to advise or recommendations but I refuse to have a lecturer off a stranger on how to look after my 13 year old dog. She then proceed to moan at the staff behind the till in full view of customers. We left very upset due to her disgusting attitude. Advise is one thing but she was so rude to us and the staff I wouldn't recommend this place at all and its a shame because the food was beautiful.. more credit to the staff working under her and I hope they see this and know we appreciate their kindness and their service and food skills are incredible and all should be proud of themselves for what they offer. The management should be rewarding them not being rude to customers and telling them off in front...
