The following is my experience and does not mean everyone will have the same experience. This was my second visit to Drumlnrig café this time I was not too impressed with the food and drink, fish and chips where both undercooked not tasty at all and the peas where shrivelled up frozen peas. The drinks we wanted from the menu where not available so had milkshake instead which was very small. The milkshake was just flavoured milk but the taste was nice but not what one would describe as a milkshake. Service was nice but, this is a personal thing, I don't like to be called "yous" it comes across as "you lot" I personally find that not suitable in a service environment. Although it wasn't busy there where dirty plates on the tables I don't think it is nice sitting down at a table with dirty plates. The biggest shock came at the till it was expensive for what we received just short of £37 Personally I will not be visiting Drumlanrig café again but please don't let our experience put you off, yours might...
Read moreStopped for lunch, as recommended by friends. So disappointed. The staff made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable as a loan female, and they were female themselves. It was quiet and there were plenty of staff. I was told where to sit and then ignored. It took over 10 minutes to get a menu, then at least another 10 to take my order, only because I asked when the waitress went to a nearby table. Other people came in and were welcomed and served immediately. The food was okay but if I hadn't been a stranger, and not known where else to eat, I would not have stuck it out. Very much a locals cafe I guess, and not the usual friendly Scottish welcome I am used to. I was so uncomfortable I actually left my coat behind, which a friendly customer spotted. The whole experience, as a recent widow learning to travel alone, made me feel pretty low. I'll never go...
Read moreMy wife and I have been visiting Thornhill for over 30 years, from East Kilbride and Dumfries. On our 1st visit we chose the Drumlanrig Cafe because it is so obvious by its location on the crossroads of the village. We have never had a bad or sub standard meal in the cafe. Our visit on Friday, 21st of June, was the first Friday that my wife (Janette) and I have ever been in the cafe. The staff are a bit older than the girls we have seen over the years, (we are sure that some of the girls could be married or even mothers). The Friday Ladies could not be more welcoming or helpful if they had tried. Long story, short version, just give the Drumlanrig Cafe a try. You will not be...
