I'll start with the positives- Staff were polite, friendly and efficient. The restaurant/cafe and shop are extremely well presented. The shop has a huge selection of lovely art, books, gifts, beauty and food/drink items. Something for everyone. I must admit, at first glance, I found the food selection on the menu a bit odd but I was willing to keep an open mind. For example- sweet potato, red pepper, harissa and leek soup seemed like a strange combo. I had the Miso Mushrooms which were listed as mushrooms in a miso cream sauce served on toast. You could definitely taste the distinct umami flavour of the miso. Unfortunately the saltiness built up on the palate and became quite strong over time. The dish was served on a side plate, so it was fairly small and with a price tag of almost £10 I didn't feel it offered very good value for money. The pancakes were also quite small and thin, though a bit better value at £6. For portion size and vfm the BLT seemed the most substantial. The open tuna sandwich was also quite small and served on a side plate for almost £10. Even the soup didn't fill the bowl and just looked watery. Several in the party were still hungry when they had finished their meals. For two people including food, drinks, puddings and tip,...

Loved Thomas Tosh, a gem in Thornhill although it's on the pricey side

Staff were absolutely lovely, helpful and welcoming.

They clearly hire local youth to help out who could do with a bit more training, for example their communication skills need working on ....and one lad picked his nose before his shift started :D

Anyway, that aside which didn't have an impact (as it's great to see they hire local youth), they focus on quality. The tapas was delicious and so was the coffee.

Definitely worth visiting.

The store side of things is WONDERFUL, everything is top quality and it's worth just looking at all the nice things they have in stock.

Be aware that they don't put prices on all their products...we ended up paying for a medium jar of presto for £6, it...

Very disappointing. Customer service was very poor. Having to sit upstairs ..not an issue ,although somewhat lacking in atmosphere. Seats downstairs already being occupied by ladies knitting group. We ordered coffee scone and bacon roll nothing too challenging . 3 trips later given the whole scone order...trip 1..no sugar...trip 2 ..no cream ...coffee tepid Meanwhile still waiting on bacon roll! Obviously forgotten..reordered ..by the time bacon roll arrived coffee finished.

Observing the 2 young people working it seemed there was no obvious organisation..lack of communication and rather little or no common sense. On a positive note Gift shop has some nice unique and interesting items as well as beautiful ...

We were down visiting friends in Sanquhar who recommended visiting here. We were not disappointed as the shop was stocked with an amazing selection of books, gifts, etc. We enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee and cake served on the most delightful crockery which I purchased. We had such a wonderful experience that we returned again today and I bought more crockery!! I would just like to say that the staff (a young girl, a young boy and a girl from the kitchen) who were working today (01.07.24) were outstanding. They were so welcoming, friendly and helpful that if I could I would give them 10 out of 5!!! Well done, guys!!
