Staying for a few days in the local area we used here for food on a number of occasions as prices reasonable . What can I say breakfasts were fine no issues . However dinner was another thing all together ! First night we went in and I ordered chip shop supper ( fish , scampi and battered sausage ) . Now I’m not particularly picky eater but the fish was rock hard you couldn’t put a fork in it or cut it with knife . I didn’t complain as one of those things and rest of food was ok . Next night we went in at 7.30pm and wanted carvery . Bought two and at point of purchase told of no issues . When I got to get food ( about 2 mins later ) all beef had gone , all gammon had gone , no pigs in blankets ( even though I’d just paid extra for them ) and three of veg were out . No apology just told that’s all there is . Decided next night to go else where and had I nice meal . Tonight got back from nice day sightseeing late so at 8 went back to this pub ( can’t be bad three nights !) . Well firstly all seemed ok until they bought out the completely wrong dinner for me . The lady took it back and came back to say they had cooked wrong meal and it would take about 15minutes to get which I agreed . Two minutes later another lady came over and politely said the meal is asked for hadn’t been prepared and it wouldn’t be right if they cooked it . I reluctantly agreed to a different meal which was £6 cheaper . This meal took a further 15 minutes ( my partner had finished hers by this point ) and they got it wrong again as I asked for mash and got chips . By now too irritated to ask for another change . Waited to the end and no offer of my £6 back for cheaper meal so I asked to see duty manager . The lady who came out to say my meal hadn’t been prepared came out and she salvaged some good will . I asked for my £6 refund and she apologised and gave us a full refund for the whole meal which did repair some damage . If not for this lady I would be taking this whole experience a lot further . However this whole experience isn’t good enough and with so much competition in the local area you need to up your game...
Read moreBirthday meal tonight and our starter of Garlic Mushrooms came out frozen solid in the middle the next set must have gave the kitchen the fear cause they were burnt solid on the outside. Couldn't get a fork into them.
Main came out, peppercorn sauce on the other half's meal was disgusting and we were told its not their fault its ordered in.
My own meal, was a mix of different selections. Small steak was burnt on the outside and without a steak knife was very hard to cut even though it was medium. The 2nd half of it was impossible to eat, couldn't get through the steak having chewed it for about 45 seconds. Eventually had to spit it out in a napkin. The chicken breast hard and dry on the outside, was either not cooked great or had been lying out drying out. The chips were 100% McCain home fries which I find really embarrassing for any "restaurant".
Was nervous to eat the chicken wings but they seemed to be cook fine.
The server came back to ask how things were and told him. He offered a refund which wasn't the reason I told him how the food was but though it was fair enough.
The manager came over with her face tripping her and asked for the details of what was wrong with the food. So explained it (which is when she said they can't take responsibility for the peppercorn sauce, even though it tasted like aftershave) after looking down her nose at my explanations offered to refund my meal and the starter. So eneded up with half a refund, only to count up what she gave us to find it was about £3 short.
Couldn't be arsed arguing so left with what we had.
We have had breakfast there a few times and I have to say the breakfast is good value for money compared to other local establishments. We won't be going back for dinner.
I should point out that my other half feels leaving a poor review having been offered a refund isn't right. However the review is fair reflection on our experience the refund doesn't change how poorly cooked the food was and that's what counts when...
Read moreI decided to celebrate my birthday at this restaurant as I'd heard good things. What a mistake. As soon as we were walked to our booked table I noticed a lack of care: We had 2 children coming with us, one in the buggy, so obviously needing 2 highchairs. The table was half a sofa so not a lot of space for highchairs but the worst past was that the staff member didn't even help us put the highchairs in place. Just brought them, stacked, and left them there for us to sort. So WE had to take 2 adult chairs from the table and replace them with the highchairs, no indication of where we should leave those chairs... Just ridiculous. But I wish this was the only problem with our visit. After trying to download and order through the app (the internet signal is appalling there) then I couldn't include a discount code that I had through the app. Waste of time, had to queue at the bar to order everything to be able to include the code.
We ordered at about 1.30pm. At 2.30pm we STILL didn't have our food. After asking a waiter, who simply went to kitchen and then continued his work without telling us anything, I had to go and ask another staff member at the bar. "It's coming out." Eventually the food made it to our table, except, of course, one of the kids meals. Another round of asking and waiting. The meal then comes but it's the wrong one. The child is lactose-free, the meal was asked as VEGAN option and it comes with cheese. Honestly. Appalling service. The food was honestly average. If it were excellent I'd make an effort to try again, give it the benefit of the doubt, blame it on the staff. But nah... don't think I'll bother. And I'll be telling everyone I know about this...
