I'd seen a favourite Youtuber of mine buying and eating a pie from here and his review made me want to call in, so as I was picking my kids up from Durness thought why not take the (Sizeable) detour to visit.
I'd told my kids that this is supposed to be the best pie shop in the UK and all 3 of us were keen to find out.
On arrival at approx 10.30 on Friday 8th of Nov the shop was empty of customers (But not for long) so we had time to browse the pies and ask questions of the friendly lady behind the counter. We settled on our order and were salivating as we smelled our pies being heated. I bought 4 (One to eat then, the others to take home) Steak and ale, Haggis neeps and tatties, Bonfire smoked chilli and Venison and cranberry) the kids (Aged 26 and 27) bought 3 each: Steak and ale, Pork and apple, Bonfire smoked chilli and Apple and blueberry.
We ate our pies sat in the sunshine overlooking the loch which was simply stunning, as I have to say were the pies, we were not disappointed, in fact they exceeded all our expectations and we all agreed these were the best pies we had ever eaten.
My one and only regret is the pie I had seen reviewed (Pork and chorizo) wasn't available that day but my steak and ale soon made me forget.
It is even possible to have pies delivered anywhere in the UK for a very reasonable cost (Minimum order 12 pies) this is something I am considering for the future as living in Sheffield (510 miles away) nipping up there isn't really feasible though I am returning on Monday 17th when I take my Son back to Durness as, well why not😊?
😪 Just checked and to my dismay it's...
Read moreStopped by here when passing through on Friday morning (14th July), sadly we'd not long had breakfast so didn't get anything to eat there at the time (there are nice places to sit outside overlooking the sea) but we did get some pies to takeaway and brought them home - 1 x Chicken & Ham, 1 x Steak & Ale and 1 x Apple & Blackberry. We had the savoury pies last night for dinner (we were told they'd last 5 days in the fridge so popped them into our campervan fridge on Fri and ate them at home on Mon - still fresh!) and I have to say these are some of, if not THE best pies I have ever had. As someone from the North of England (but living in Scotland!) I feel I am well versed in the eating of pies so my word can hopefully be trusted! But in all seriousness, I was amazed at not just the pastry (which is most definitely the best shortcrust pastry I have ever had) but the fillings too - both pies were jam packed generously with filling and were incredibly delicious. The Chicken & Ham one had really tender chunks of chicken inside and what looked like shredded up ham hock perhaps and I am sure I could I taste delicate lemon and some herbs. The Steak & Ale had just meltingly soft beef, and a very lovely ale flavour. Just need to figure out if I can make room in the freezer for the Pies By Post that they do! Looking forward to the Apple &...
Read moreVisited on a busy Saturday lunchtime. Restaurant section was full up, with people standing queueing waiting to grab a table. The woman overseeing the restaurant was extremely stressed, snapping at people and arguing with those being seated and waiting. So wee opted for takeaway, which was equally as busy. The young redhaired woman at the takeaway counter however, was in complete contrast to her colleague. She was polite, calm and completely unflustered by the busy service. We tried the chicken & haggis, steak & ale and the chicken curry pies. Whilst they were generously filled, they were all a bit dry and lacking in flavour. The meat in one of the steak & ale pies was very grisly and chewy, not a pleasant eating experience, and at £9 each, not great value. After reading all the 5 star reviews we had expected better. We would say it's worth a visit but not as good as others have stated. We...
