I first went to this place when it first opened. It was terrible food then. Over the next few years it hasn't got any better. But I decided to ignore the terrible reviews that it has locally, and give it another go. When we arrived we were told we had to wait for a table to be cleaned (There were dirty dishes left on a number of unoccupied tables). Rather than sort us out with a table first, the Duty Manager decided to keep us waiting and tried to sort out 3 separate couples who arrived after us. It was dis-organised chaos, with one couple who came after us getting seated BEFORE us! Once we had finally got a table after 15 minutes waiting (restaurant wasn't busy!). We ordered drinks and food and 20 minutes later we were still awaiting our drinks whilst all the waiting female staff chatted in a group and ignored customers! My starter finally arrived, and we then had to ask where our drinks were! My starter was ok, but my partners steak was well done (or cremated more accurately!) rather than the medium rare she asked for! Throughout our stay we witnessed the female manager and waiting staff behave as if customers were an inconvenience to their social life and their want to stand around chatting rather than doing their job and serving customers! The only customers the waiting staff paid ANY attention to were a table of 2 guys who they all flirted with relentlessly (it was pathetic!) and another female customer who was obviously a friend of the Duty Manager. What was also very unprofessional was the clothing of the staff who were dressed all in their own clothes with grubby stains. It didn't look in the least bit professional or what you come to expect from a well known pub chain! The waiting and cooking staff need sacked (at the very least the Duty Manager who didn't have a clue what she was doing!). It's a nice looking place spoiled by the terrible service and awful food. A view held by virtually every local of Dumfries who has been there! Avoid...
Read moreWe came to the area for a short holiday. The pub, atmosphere and staff were great. Personally, I think the prices were a bit steep considering the skinny chips were Lidl skin on crispy fries and the fat ones are the luxury beef dripping triple cooked chips (both from Lidl/aldi) The burger was also nice for the first few bites, but it was a bit burnt, really dry and you could tell the meat was cheap. I’m not saying not to come here. I’m just very disappointed that it cost nearly £100 for four people and we were planning to come here the day afterwards as well but we decided to change our mind considering we are paying £100 for food that was bought from Lidl but cooked in a restaurant and then sold for more. It was a nice experience, it just rubbed me the wrong way that the price tag did not reflect in the food and I was left with the feeling that I could’ve cooked the exact same meal at home in a larger quantity for maximum £10. I know for a 100% fact that they are Lidl chips because they are the ONLY oven chips that I like, they have a distinct aftertaste and I can easily recognise a chip that I’ve probably eaten 50 times before. Don’t let this discourage you from coming just be aware so that you’re not...
Read moreWe had not booked and realised quickly that we should have, and will in future. Thankfully there was a spare table and and after a short wait we were seated with a menu. I am coeliac and asked a staff member about gluten free breakfast options. Although there was not a non-gluten containing breakfast menu the staff member was able to state what I could and could not have. When asked a question that she did not know the answer to she was more than happy to go and check with the kitchen staff. Then when the food arrived there was an allergy marker to ensure all staff were aware. This filled me with confidence where other restaurants have not understood the allergens related to Coeliac and I have been “glutened” on a number of occasions (where I am seriously ill) which has resulted in me rarely eating out. The presentation of the food was lovely and when I asked for more butter (gluten free bread can be very dry and requires more butter than normal) she went straight away and brought me some back and advised to just ask if we needed anything else. Overall we were made to feel welcome and we couldn’t have asked for a better service, which was fantastic considering how busy the restaurant was. Thank you to...
