I kept mulling over whether I should leave this review because I find it quite difficult being negative, but at the end of the day the reason we chose this place was based solely on all the positive reviews and there's something not quite right going on here because this was one of the worst places I've eaten at in years.
The mango tikka starter was dry and stringy, and the dipping sauce tasted cheap and generic. The Jaipuri samosas were shortcrust pastry filled with potato, nothing else. No other vegetables, no spice , nothing.
The South Indian garlic chilli sauce was ok but was very different from how it was described, there was not a single chilli in sight and it wasn't spicy. The lamb was a combination of dry and fatty. The rice was boil-in-the-bag or microwave and the mushrooms tasted like they'd been cooked in old oil and left for days. The naan appeared to be pre-made, I suspect bought in, and wasn't hot so the quite unpalatable garlic & herb "butter" didn't melt and was just smeared on top. The dhansak was very bland, in fact it was so bland we queried whether we had received a dhal by accident but a manager confirmed that it was indeed a dhansak. Literally the blandest dhansak either of us had ever tried.
Lastly the price was quite expensive for both the quality and size of the portions (which were thankfully quite small). We checked the menu online before we went and we should have noticed in the restaurant but we didn't, the prices are considerably higher in the restaurant, so...
Read moreI Don't know how did you get 4.5 stars to start with 🤔. The Menu looks beautiful but too extensive for you to produce. I ordered 'Tariwala chicken', and myself being from Punjab, i know what Tari should look like. This was more of Masala Chicken than Tari. Secondly, the manager has no clue what he is doing there other than blaming his staff for everything. I witnessed the following- a customer was Celiac and could have not stressed any better by requesting that her husband's food must not even share the same serving tray. Completely ignored, the food came on the same tray 😖, and to top that the mangers were apologetic and blaming the junior staff. You ALL need Training , Specially the management on Food, Health & Safety. The Waiting girls were doing wonderful job, But that Young Slim Guy wearing Glasses in the kitchen just could not keep his hands off his Hair. None of you Had hairnets or head coverings in the kitchen. The food tasted good but of no use if Food Safety is not in place. Won't...
Read moreOn our way to from Birmingham to Tarbert, a village in the West of Scotland in the Argyle and Bute area near Loch Fyne, we stopped at the Travel Lodge at Dumbarton for a break and an overnight rest. What made us return to this stop-over is the restaurant Masala Twist which is on the same side of the road as the Dumbarton Travel Lodge and just a short walk away, appropriate and much appreciated after a long drive. The menu is extensive. I suspect one cannot go wrong whatever one orders. We had the Mango and Coriander Chicken Tikka, Daal Makhani, Plain Parathas. Pulau rice was served with the Chicken Tikka. The portions were generous. Top marks for every item that we ordered, including the drinks. And they were not City of Birmingham prices. The service was personal, attentive and friendly. Definitely worth a visit. I understand that it is a family business and they have one in Glasgow. Look out for Masala Twist - best restaurant for a...
