It was our second time are Miller & Carter Newton Mearns. We ordered the Butchers Block with lobster tails. It was delicious! Service was prompt. We were served by Andie, who was a delight. Very friendly and attentive. Sadly, I think there's a couple of things that really let this restaurant down... the dress code. On the day of reservation, you get an email reminding you that there's a dress code enforced. Which is fine, I understand the vibe that Miller & Carter are trying to achieve... but, if I am expected to dress a certain way to go and eat some steak- then I expect things to be near perfect at the restuarant... The toilets need a bit of TLC. Rather nasty toilets with broken toilet seats. The facilities in Nandos are more luxe. Also, the music in the restaurant- I dont expect to listen to Niall Horan / One direction type music when there's a dress code. I noticed that even some of the staff had trainers on, which does not bother me in the slightest, but I too would've like to have worn my trainers! We held off booking for a while because we noticed the restaurant was closed, we assumed for renovations. But it seems to look the same inside, a bit tired and not immaculately clean. I wouldn't have a single bad thing to say if there wasn't a dress code- but I think that enforcing rules like this sets an expectation for near perfection at the restuarant... and it is not perfect.

We visited Miller & Carter Newton Mearns on Thursday for date night and had the most wonderful experience. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. We started with the Baked Camembert sharing starter, which was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. For mains, we had the 50-day aged Ribeye 8oz, perfectly cooked and served with all the trimmings – without doubt one of the best steaks we’ve had. Dessert was just as impressive, with the Caramel Biscuit Torte and the Sticky Toffee Pudding both being the perfect sweet finish. As outstanding as the food was, what truly made the evening special was the service. Our waitress, Ellis, was simply exceptional. She was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout, with a genuine smile that never faded. She struck the perfect balance of professionalism and approachability, and her customer service skills were some of the very best we’ve ever experienced. Ellis really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and she is a credit to Miller & Carter – staff like her make all the difference. Thank you to the Miller and Carter team for such a fantastic evening.

Wowza! I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve been to M&C! Truly a special meal for my mum’s birthday. We ordered a cocktail each to start - the disarono one and the slinger(?). Both super fresh! Then I had the fillet steak which comes with a ā€˜wedge’ of lettuce (you choose your dressing), an onion rostie (fabulous), a choice of boiled potatoes, fries or chunky chips. You also choose a steak sauce. I went for boiled potatoes and choose the peppercorn. The sauce was glorious without being too spicy or heavy. Would highly recommend. Only thing I didn’t think was 100% great was the wedge and dressing as the dressing absolutely drenched the lettuce 🫣 so next time I’d get the dressing on the side. Next I had the chocolate orange bomb for dessert which was also spectacular and highly recommend! Really decadent! The chocolate orange orange the mousse comes in is a nice touch! My mum ordered apple pie and they wrote happy birthday in chocolate on the plate which was a lovely touch! All in all highly recommend and will be back!

Tucked away in the leafy suburb of Newton Mearns, Miller & Carter has long been a stalwart of steakhouse dining, but my recent lunch visit confirmed that it’s more than just a haven for meat lovers—this is a restaurant that delivers a well-rounded and carefully curated experience from start to finish.

The meal began with a classic salt and pepper calamari starter. Calamari is a staple on many menus, yet so often executed poorly. Here, it was anything but. Lightly battered, with a crisp, golden exterior and tender, succulent calamari inside, the balance of flavors was expertly handled. A slight kick from the seasoning elevated the dish beyond the ordinary, setting the stage for what was to come.

The 7oz steak, which followed, was a masterclass in how a small cut can pack immense flavor. Cooked precisely to order, the steak arrived perfectly charred on the outside, with a juicy, tender interior. Accompanied by crisp, golden fries, a juicy grilled tomato, and the signature onion loaf—a delightful tangle of crunchy, savory ribbons—the plate was simple but exceptionally well-executed. In an era where portion control and quality can be at odds, Miller & Carter strikes a fine balance.

The dessert—a classic banoffee pie—was nothing short of indulgent, as it should be. Rich layers of banana, caramel, and cream came together in a perfect crescendo of sweetness, paired with a well-made coffee that rounded off the meal with just the right amount of bitterness.

It’s worth noting that the set lunch menu offers impressive value for money. For the quality of ingredients, precision in cooking, and overall experience, the price is more than justified.

But what truly elevated the meal was the service, with particular praise for Paul, our attentive and knowledgeable waiter. His timing was impeccable, his recommendations spot on, and his ability to anticipate our needs added a personal touch that many establishments struggle to achieve.

The surroundings, too, deserve a mention. Miller & Carter strikes a balance between elegant and approachable—stylish without pretension, a place equally suited for a casual lunch or a special occasion.

In a dining landscape where consistency can often be a rarity, Miller & Carter Newton Mearns not only meets expectations but exceeds them. A highly recommended spot for anyone seeking a well-executed, unpretentious, and thoroughly...

Just want say I thought long and hard before posting this . I have been to this restaurant several times and loved every bit of the experience from food to ambience service etc. But I booked to go on Friday 31/10/25 7 pm . When we arrived we were promptly shown to our seats and were introduced to our server for the evening . Initially everything fine took our drinks order and then came back for our food order still everything fine . Then everything changed we were left sitting for 1hr 35mins we had to ask other waiter for more drinks as we had finished off our first drinks then we waited and waited then we asked if someone was bringing our food this was 1hour after arriving . 35 mins later our appetiser arrived with one starter both cold , my starter did not come and then they got it wrong we refused the food as it was not edible . Manager came and apologised and said he would rectify this which in all fairness we said we would accept his apology and wait on food 25 mins later another appetiser appeared which we ate as by this time very hungry next came my husband starter again frozen and looked like the one we sent back . They then told me to wait another 10 mins on my food which they said was something I did not order .Took my order for starter again and then 10mind later out it came wrong starter and frozen . This was when we were done and complained and walked out . I am not saying it was the chef fault I am saying it was the server who just ignored us after taking our orders . She stood against a wall tapping away on the iPad not engaging with any customers and had the cheek to say she was sorry we were not happy and they had been getting a lot of complaints all night . Maybe if the server was doing her job we would have had a fabulous experience like before . I have raved about this restaurant to friends and family and they have all tried it . Sadly I won’t be returning this...

Having been several times over the years and had excellent service and food, my recent visit to Miller & Carter Newton Mearns was, unfortunately, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From start to finish, it was a series of mishaps and poor service that left me questioning the restaurant’s reputation and commitment to quality.

Their burgers are only served well done as they don't prep the mice for the burger at the restaurant, according to the food standards regulations. We weren't told this when we ordered for medium done. However, what came was overdone/dry and lukewarm chips, totally put us off the meal.

Service was a letdown. Despite asking three times for our drinks, they took an unreasonably long time to arrive. One member of our party wasn't served a side to their main course, yet it mysteriously appeared on the bill and we had to repeatedly ask for the lettuce & sauce for another dish.

As for dessert, the Banoffee pie was particularly disappointing. The quality was lamentable—far from the indulgent treat it should have been, it was more of an afterthought, clearly lacking in both flavour and freshness.

What made the experience even worse was the manager's complete disregard for our concerns. Despite the issues we raised, we were ignored and no effort was made to rectify the situation. No discount or apology was offered from him, leaving us feeling not just dissatisfied but also undervalued as customers. The only person who apologised was the waitress, she felt really bad about the whole situation.

Overall, Miller & Carter provided poor value for money. The food was formulaic and uninspired, the service poor due to understaffing, and the staff appeared under trained. I would not recommend this restaurant and will certainly not...
