Cannot comment of the visitor information centre as we were out of season while visiting... However, I can tell you that this location is beautiful with some lovely walks (make sure that you look at the map which indicates the states of the paths... Which range from small pavements/roads all the way through to mud pits!!!!!)

I particularly like the parking honesty box (£2 contribution). I will say that even though we went off season the car park and surrounding area was packed! That might just be that everyone else was also out for a boxing day walk though.

Basically a really good walking day out for all levels of experience!

(And toilets are available too which is really...

Had no idea this place existed until today when we were in the area and fancied a coffee. Coffee was very good and we split a bowl of delicious soup (huge, chunky, based on proprietor's granny's recipe - he ate it every day growing up in Rumania - and I can understand why) and a huge piece of apple & cinnamon cake which was the best I'd ever had. £20 for the two of us was worth it for the quality and excellent service.

Not sure if they are responsible for the attached toilet block and that would be my only complaint as the disabled one had not been looked after. But overall a little gem especially if you've just had a nice walk in...

Poor coffee. First visit asked for flat-white with half-full milk, because I like it strong. It was lukewarm, and I could barely taste the coffee. Next visit I thought macchiato would be better option. I asked for double-shot macchiato, but I was given a single-shot espresso. When I questioned whether it was actually a double he claimed it was, though offered to make it 'longer'. I was out for a relaxing walk in the Pentlands, so didn't bother to argue about it. It wasn't a bad espresso but that was not what I asked for. Shame since it's a convenient cafe for a hot drink...

We went for a walk around the reservoir and needed some scran after burning some calories. We went into the pentland hills cafe express and wowsers the food was sensational! Had some lovely coffee and the best chicken noodle soup we have ever had , homemade stock from real roasted chicken, simply outstanding ! Cakes looked amazing too, and the place had a great vibe . Do yourself a favour , go in immediately..........WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS, GO NOW!!!

This is the place listed on many walking guides as the visitors information center or flotterstone cafe. They do delicious coffee and can fill up your water bottles if you are a little short. The staff are very friendly but is is small so be prepared to get cozy with a stranger or order to go. Behind the coffee express is the start of a few easy to medium grade walks for all ages through the Pentland Hills. They are well sign posted.
