We'd booked a room (allegedly the last one) for £475 for one night. The weather had been extremely wet and windy all day and when we arrived at 4.30 the room felt extremely cold so we turned on the radiator which barely warmed up. In addition the television did not work, the screen showing no signal. After 3 unsuccessful visits to reception (there was no telephone) and still no warmth, I asked to speak to the manager but no one knew where he was and apparently there was no one in charge who could take responsibility. I asked for a phone number but was eventually given an email address of the owner and I immediately sent an email about the cold and lack of television. At about 6.45 (just over 2 hours after we arrived) a chap who said he worked in the kitchen appeared and was currently off duty, and after another 45 minutes he managed to get the radiator working, though not the television.||In the meantime we had discovered that 2 of the 5 bulbs in the overhead light were missing and the bedside lights had plainly not been dusted for some while. They were too dull to read by. There was no light near the dressing table for my wife to dry her hair or to apply make up. The fridge was empty. The seersucker duvet was badly creased underneath and the bed felt as if it had not been aired. The chap from the kitchen was very pleasant and helpful and did his best to resolve the problems.||In the bathroom there was one soap dispenser for two basins and the bath, and another in the shower that did not work. There were no bath robes and no non slip mat in the shower.||After dinner it was still raining hard and we asked for a light to be put on in the very dark courtyard so that we could get back to our room. We were told that a light would come on automatically - it didn't. No umbrellas were provided for the use of guests to get to the restaurant or to get back from it.||The self service continental breakfast was dire (as others have described): the croissants were cold, the bread was sliced supermarket and a nectarine I chose had plainly just come out of a fridge and wouldn't be edible for several days at least.||Having stayed at many hotels in recent years, this was by far the most expensive and very definitely the worst.||My letter of complaint to the owner suggesting that a substantial refund would be appropriate has...
Read moreWe booked a four night stay at Redwood House Hotel as it was our first stop on our holiday in the Outer Hebrides. We were a little surprised to find it so isolated, but once we arrived and were settled in we got used to the driving to and from the property.||The room was comfortable with enough space for two of us plugs luggage. The bathroom very spacious and great shower. However I think there needs to be a table or some shelving added to the bathroom so guests can put their toiletries and toilet bags etc. on them, instead of on the floor.||The area where the dining room is located could do with a bit of a tidy up. It caters for all the guests, but it would be nice to see the plastic table clothes changed out for an evening meal, with a cloth table cloth, or an individual placemat . For the evening meals, it just seemed too much like dining in someone's kitchen or a cafe.||We also noticed that the staff took a long time to clear the used breakfast crockery from a table once guests had left. We saw one couple move used dishes to another table, then shake the plastic cloth outside then turn it over and place upside down on a table, in order that they could sit and eat their breakfast. On that day, the man and woman hanging the area didn't seem to be aware of what they were doing, or of the fact that 4-6 tables were waiting to be cleared.||For the money one pays to stay at a hotel like this, we felt a little more professionalism and friendliness from reception, waiting staff would work...
Read moreWe stayed at this property and loved it. The only drawback is that it is expensive. Breakfast was included in the price. The unit was two stories and reminds me of a chalet. Dinner was expensive, but all the food was exquisite. Imagine being completely asleep and having something jump unexpectedly on your bed. That’s exactly what happened…two hotel property cats 🐈 🐈(Wanda and Cosmo) visited out room at 4 am by entering the top window that was opened. That was an added bonus and they frightened the bejesus out of us, but we let them stay with us until they were ready to leave. These two felines were a daily visitor and we thoroughly enjoyed the added bonus and felt welcomed. In the morning, the farm animals made their way up the hill for their breakie. It was so sweet to see the animal procession meander up the hillside. There was a nice tv and we could get movies from the library to watch. The room came with a refrigerator so we could buy food from the co-op and use it instead of eating out all the time. The shower was hot and nothing short of phenomenal! I wish I could duplicate this shower in my home. The room was beautifully appointed. The drive to the property is scenic and is on one lane next to the water with a few passing lanes and several sheep 🐑 🐑 to delight. I loved this property and highly recommend staying here. I plan to stay here when I return again to the...
