Both the restaurant/bar as well as the accommodation at Roam West was disappointing to say the least… The communication with the host via booking was quite vague and unhelpful when asking for travel advice on how to arrive to their location. When we arrived we discovered there’s no one present at the reception until 3pm, and no one to answer calls or messages before 3pm. The receptionist arrived at around quarter past 3 and informed us their kitchen doesn’t open till 5pm. We made a reservation for 5pm for dinner and arrived a bit earlier for drinks. When we entered the restaurant to pick a table we were very quickly stopped by the manager who made a point of assigning us to a specific table as they had “many” reservations that evening. However, this did not seem to be an issue when another table asked to move to a window seat. Once sat at the table I couldn’t help but notice how sticky it was (would be nice to give your tables a wipe before sitting guests down). We ordered our food which arrived about 45 minutes later which was mediocre at best. Given the prices at the restaurant and the decent rating, I had slightly higher expectations for the food and service. However, I suppose that when you’re one of the only restaurants that can be found for miles, you have no issue treating your guests in a rude and condescending manner. I would not recommend you come here to eat unless you wish to be kicked out not even 1 hour and 30 mins after you’ve sat down. We had barely just finished our food and were still having our drinks, when the manager had sent over not 1 but 2 of the working staff to pressure us to either buy more from their menu or leave (the restaurant was half empty at the time). Not to mention the accommodation which resembles army barracks and meets a very minimal standard of cleanliness. Overall a very poor experience, the food is bland, the accommodation is not worth the money you pay and the...
Read moreSpent 2 nights at the Corran Bunkhouse & stumbled upon this little gem. We dined there both nights & came away amazed on both occasions. For me it's about the whole experience & I have to say it was bloody marvellous. We sampled the foldover mushroom & haggis dishes on the first night, the presentation & tastes were amazing. Interesting fact; the mushrooms used are supplied by a local forager who supplys a combination of local fungi, I suspect based on what's out there. The second night we sampled the battered haddock & chips. The batter was so light, almost tempura, so it didn't suppress the freshness of the fish. Even attention was paid to the chips, with a flutting along the length. The welcome as you walked in made you feel at home straight away. It was refreshing to be able to chat to the owners about their achievements despite having to deal with other patrons. In conclusion, if you're looking for a no nonsense, family run pub/restaurant in the region this is the place to go. Thank you to all the staff at Roam West for an experience we will...
Read moreWe were staying recently in Ardgour with our little whippet and decided to eat at Roam West one evening.. We took a trip on the Corran ferry as foot passengers (three minute crossing) then walked, literally five mins to the restaurant. We were greeted by a lovely lady and shown to our table beside the log fire, perfect, our Milo was super happy with that! 🔥 Then Luke our server went through some of the menu choices with me as I fancied something different (sorry Luke! 😂).. We finally decided on the burger for my fiance and the chimichurri Tempeh for myself.. I'm not vegan but what a perfect choice, it was sooo delicious as was the burger! What a great experience, absolutely lovely, very friendly and attentive staff and delicious food in cozy surroundings. Thanks so much Ben and team, we will definitely be back!! 💯 % 👌 Ps.. Ben.. I need some ideas of swim spots off you for when we're next...
