What a fabulous find. The location is absolutely wonderful with the bonus of a little ferry across to it making it all the more unique. The hotel is right on Loch Linnhe with excellent views up and down the loch. There is a little lochside beach to amble along, one direction taking you to the little lighthouse just a few hundred metres from the hotel. It was perfect for an after dinner stroll.
The hotel is very homely and comfortable, and retains a lot of character - what a refreshing change from the soulless chain hotels! The room was spotlessly clean and well equipped. We had a twin room and the beds were very comfortable and warm (it was particularly chilly weather-wise whilst we were there). The view from the window across and up the loch was exceptional. The bathroom was also spotlessly clean and had a lovely hot shower.
The staff, including the owner, we're very welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant and that too was fantastic - plenty of choice (including vegetarian options) with good portion sizes. Breakfast was the same, with plenty to choose from. Our cooked breakfasts set us up beautifully for the day.
I really can't recommend this place highly enough. If you want character-less, generic, chain hotel style then it may not be for you. But if you want a charming, homely, Highland stay this place is absolutely perfect and should definitely be included in your travel plans.
By the way, the ferry is the quickest way to the inn from Fort William, and runs approximately every 30 minutes between 8.30am and 9.30pm. For our car and the two of is it was just £10 to cross. There is a single-track road from just north of Fort William that takes you down the west side of Loch Linnhe to the inn. I would very much recommend taking this road if you have a car - it is stunningly beautiful with lots of places to stop and admire the scenery or spend a few minutes lochside. Not one...
Read moreThe only positive thing from our experience at The Inn, is that they changed our room from a twin to a double on arrival (well a family room, but it did have a double bed). |Meal was dreadful - I chose the vegetable lasagne, as it was made with gluten free pasta, however it arrived in a small ramekin, with most of the cheese and sauce over spilt down the sides and burnt, with some lettuce (presumably straight out of a packet), no tomato or other salad elements, and with NO garlic bread - I can only assume they didn’t have gluten free garlic bread, but this was not explained to me when it was presented. I only ate it as I was hungry, but how they could justify £17.50 for such a small amount of food, as the garlic bread was missing, and no alternative, I just felt penalised for being coeliac. I also noticed another customer picking at his lasagne, and from his reaction realised he was obviously thinking the same as me!!|The owner then proceeded to tell us a story about some previous guests who had threatened to complain and he had said to them to just ‘fill their boots’.|I felt ill during the night and didn’t make it for breakfast, and as we had paid extra for breakfast on arrival, I asked my partner to ask for a refund, however he felt that this would be met by deaf ears so decided not to ask. |Very disappointed as this was the most expensive place we stayed at during our NC500 experience, and definitely the worst in standard and...
