My partner was given the monkfish (most expensive menu item at £24.00) which was presented in a bath of oil and butter that came off too sickly for our taste and made my partner feel gross and sick.

Plate was taken away with 1/3rd eaten.

No refund/reduction of the bill was offered because "that's how it's supposed to be"

Edit: Received 4 missed calls from the manager over 1 hour expressing his unhappiness with the review and how devastating a review like this would be on a family run business. Realising that I was a bit harsh in the original review, I've amended to remove opinion based comments.

They offered for us to come back for a vouchered breakfast or lunch which after some thought have decided we will not be taking up. If they had offered this at the time, then this review wouldn't even be here.

Having worked in the hospitality industry previously, we'd get customers similar to us where the food just simply was inedible. It's always worth replacing/refunding on the basis that more profit would be achieved in the long term by maintaining a positive relationship with the customer instead of initially declining the refund and having to get the customer to fight for it or leave a negative review.

2nd Update: Updating review again. When asked by the waitress if we wanted to order something else in addition, we said "no, because my partner feels sick." If you look at the photo, you can see the plate is swimming in oil and butter. The menu specially states "Chorizo & Caper Butter". There is no mention of the word "sauce". On the phone, the manager said that we should've kicked up a bigger fuss when in restaurant - we did, in which the manager declined (through proxy of the waitress) to remove the item from the bill. Contradictory, no?

Even though I've amended my review to be much more polite and with a higher score, the manager is still determined to complain about the previous review instead of apologising for the experience and accepting fault. Whilst we considered returning in future, without any compensation, the clear hostility and defensiveness of the manager has left a sour taste in the mouth which proves that this relationship cannot be salvaged.

I can't understand the need to air complaints about a review that no longer exists just to try to point out to other reviewers how bad a person I am?

Either way, I am satisfied that we will not be returning.

I believe this family run business has a chance at being great, and serves decent quality food. I think what we experienced this evening was just an unfortunate chain of events inflamed by anger from both sides.

I would suggest other Google Local Guides making their own opinions of this...

Looking forward to being there again xx. Again another fabulous 3 course meal fory birthday. Cocktails were absolutely delicious best iv tasted and im used to Glasgow cocktails but urs r the best by far, French martinis are delious. Will be back soon love this place. Another excellent meal in there today delicious food excellent cocktails and super friendly staff. So lucky to have this on our doorstep. another amazing meal yesterday at the scarecrow, excellent service also, very friendly staff,. And delicious cocktails. Will be back again soon. Yet another amazing meal last night for my birthday. Those sauteed mushrooms wow I could have ate tonnes of them so so delicious 😋 it's amazing having a place like this at the bottom of ma hill my favourite place to treat myself anywhere, don't even go into Glasgow for our nights now

Was in two wkends ago and was really disappointed to see that the meal deal was no long on on a Saturday before 4.45pm. my husband and I got wraps and paid extra for chips,. Very very disappointing the wraps were so small with not much filling in them at all, not what we r used to with this lovely wee place. cocktails have increased at least by 2pounds in eight months an list has changed an more basic. This is an amazing wee place I would really hate to c it go but after that Saturday with my family it might be sometime before we return. As u can see from above I have always loved this place I hope it comes back to its...

The food was great however, I would not recommend this venue for a large group booking. We dined as a party of 13 and were asked to submit a pre-order a few days in advance which was completely reasonable given the size of our group. While I appreciated this level of organization, the overall service on the day was disappointing.

There were long waits between courses, and used plates were left on the table for quite some time before being cleared. Despite having submitted our orders ahead of time, we ended up being there for over three and a half hours. I found myself repeatedly approaching the staff to request service, which I hate doing but needed to be done.

It also appeared that only two or three staff members were managing both the bar and restaurant areas, which likely contributed to the delays. Given that our booking was made in advance, it would have been reasonable to expect adequate staffing for the size of our party.

The seating arrangement was also not ideal, we were placed in a small back area, divided between two tables, one of which was positioned behind the other. This made conversation awkward and disjointed. The room itself became increasingly warm and uncomfortable, and unfortunately, the windows could not be opened which made the heat unbearable.

That said, the food itself was great, and I would recommend this restaurant for smaller groups or couples. However, based on this experience, I would not suggest it for larger gatherings or...

The Scarecrow is a pleasant bar and grill offering a reasonable selection of good pub grub. It is roughly L-shaped with a raised area near the bar and a lower area past the kitchen. The lower area has two interesting pictures with history of Kilsyth and the pub itself. Part of the pub was once a bike shop which explains why there is a bike on one wall.  A nice touch was having a small dish of crackers with our drinks before ordering our food. We were all happy with our choices of Macaroni, Steak Pie, Fish n’ Chips and Chicken Tacos.  Service was warm and friendly.

It's a great little restaurant, with large windows looking onto the pedestrianised main street, food was lovely and you can pop through to the lounge for drinks after your meal. The restaurant is completely separate from the lounge bar, which is nice. reasonably priced food and set menus, the food is hand made, freshly prepared and the chips are heavenly .
