Popped in on spur of the moment for coffee and cake with a buddy. Pluses ; •great selection of cakes (as can be seen in one of my photos)…and lovely big wedges. Also note cakes rather than tray bakes. Don’t get me wrong I love millionaires shortbread or tiffin, but sometimes you need a big comforting slab of cake especially now we are heading into winter. • their scones were good and moist and biggest tick of all for me is proper clotted cream served with the jam and scone. None of your whipped cream rubbish. • good prompt knowledgable staff • very clean • lovely cappuccino • they serve alcohol so if your having a bad day you make upgrade that latte to large gin and tonic. • prices were good and there was a large lunch menu with many hot meal options Negatives; •not much Jam served with the scone Jam and cream. And wasn’t asked which jam was preferred, although when questioned was given choice of strawberry or marmalade. • the cafe has a lot of card, gift, gin and books stands which can make you feel a bit swamped. • staff were a little brisk in dealing with us like they were trying to beat some customer served per 10 mins world record.
Overall a positive cafe experience will...
Read moreAfter a few nights camping at Ruberslaw Campsite nearby, we headed to Jedburgh for a bite on route home. We had not planned a stop and just drove down their quaint little high street and came across Simply Scottish. It looked busy and inviting, we also managed to get an onstreet parking spot across the road, so worked perfectly. We were lucky enough to get a table for the four of us, two adults and two kids, 4 and 7 years. They have a simple and good selection of snacks and food. We both went for flatbread, mine with Macsweeny Haggis and my wife for the Hot Smoked Salmon. Both kids had mac and cheese. It all arrived pretty quickly and all really tasty. The walls are covered with beautiful artwork for sale from across Scotland, which add to the local and inviting atmosphere. Highly recommended for lunch and the cake selection looked great too. Thank you to the team for looking...
Read moreSimply Splendid! Pulled into Jedburgh for a rest stop and quick cuppa this afternoon. Came upon Simply Scottish. Very nice, relaxed atmosphere and lots of room. We weren’t having a hot meal but the menu looked excellent and very reasonably priced. Other diners seemed to be enjoying hot food that looked very good! We were tempted by the cakes - an impressive selection of sponges, flapjacks etc, and BIG portions too. We plumped for Apple & cinnamon, and Pistachio & white chocolate (see photo). Can highly recommend. Tea/coffee very good. Also we’d like to say ‘thank you’ to Jedburgh. Free car parking, free public toilets (very clean), clear signage, visitor information, heritage attractions (we visited the house of Mary Queen of Scots - excellent). A lovely place to visit. Thank you Jedburgh and thank you...
