This summer I went to Jedburgh for the first time (I’m from the United States) and my mother and I stopped here as it was one of the only places open serving food. We go in. We are seated, but the hostess gave us a bit of a weird look and abruptly left. We waited here for over 20 minutes and no one served us. No one looked in our direction. Not one of the staff was friendly to us, but eagerly seated locals who came in after us and waited on them immediately. I don’t leave a negative review lightly. Jedburgh is a bit of a tourist town. Yes we were tourists, it’s not uncommon when you’re literally across the street from a couple major landmarks for tourists to visit your establishment. Going in you could feel that they were treating us differently from the local guests, and it was a terrible experience. We left after being refused service and it was such a terrible experience. We were nicely dressed and groomed, we were polite, we didn’t do anything to be treated this way and still I felt embarrassed. I looked on a few review sites after and noticed we were not the only Tourists to experience this at this restaurant. I would never recommend and highly recommend the management speaks with the staff on their treatment of...

Just found this place, nearly the only place open for food in Jedburgh at 2:00pm on a friday.!! Had a nice pint and food ok, staff friendly, however we had a dog.... Not good in jedburgh, not really a dog friendly place concidering all the wonderful walking...we were happy to eat outside as no dogs allowed in the pub. It started to poor with rain and hail, I went in to ask if we could finish our food inside and was told NO, dogs are not allowed.... So we won't be back, I bet little screaming kids are allowed, but not a very quiet friendly dog who would just lie under the table where no one would know he was there....3 other couples with dogs passed us by whilst it was raining and asked us if dogs were allowed in the pub we said NO.....lots of trade lost...

We were on a day out to visit Jedburgh and to have look around the town centre, it was a Sunday and not a lot was open, when we were hungry we looked for somewhere to have our lunch, we found the Carter's Rest and thought it looked a decent place to have some food, it was about 1pm, when we entered a member of staff told us there was no food available until 2pm because they had a function on, they were a bit abrupt, we decided to stay and have a coffee, we requested a latte however recieved an ordinary lukewarm coffee, we had our drink and decided to leave and...

So many good things to say about this place! Warm friendly atmosphere as we walked in and were warmly greeted by our host. There is a really nice selection of starters and mains which made it hard to decide, so will one day have to come back. Fish was absolutely delicious and all food came out piping hot. Take a look round the walls for a history of Jedburgh and it’s past locals. I was advised it used to be the school back some hundred or more years ago. If you’re there to check out castles and abbeys, make sure you stop here for a bight to eat

Popped into The Carters rest after visiting the abbey and the old jail. We only wanted a snack/light meal. Great selection on the menu. Two selected prawns as a starter, one panini and the other haggis ball’s. The chips were the best we have had on our travels, crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Excellent food, excellent service highly recommend anyone visiting or staying in Jedburgh to visit and eat in this pub. Bathrooms spotless.

À great traditional Scottish pub. A great simple menu. The homemade soup was lovely. A seperated dining area from the main bar. Try also the haggis meatballs. When your done you can pop into the main bar and have a game of pool, where the friendly locals will chat with you. Parking was free in front, only about 5 places and right next to the Abbey. Serving staff were very friendly. This was a authentic Scottish pub.
