This was going to be 3* but the Brunch saved it! Once we found which entrance way to go through to the check-in area we were greeted warming and pointed to our room - No. 9 - Neptune (bit strange for the only water-related named room to not have a loch view but that’s just me!). The room was lovely and spacious with a lot of plugs and USB ports for your gadgets, very clean and well maintained, a good amount of storage space and a very large and bright bathroom with a shower and bath/shower combo as well and nice large towels. There were a a couple issue in the bathroom; there was no towel hook next to the sink for the hand towels and the only towel rack is over by the toilet, which is an odd place to have the towel rack, the towel rack itself is heated by not big enough to place to towels on easily and the showers took a very long time to get hot and had very little pressure, we tried both to see if one was better than the other but there was no luck. The bed was VERY comfy, a nice firm mattress and plush duvet which made for a really good nights sleep. Breakfast was very disappointing, unfortunately… once we made our way through the maze of corridors to the breakfast room we were greeted warmly and pointed to a seat, no other guidance was provided as to how the breakfast service worked and there were no prices on the menu to be able to work anything out, my husband went to get us coffee and instead of there being an urn of coffee you just had to spoon some instant granules in to the cup and add hot water, there was no bread or toaster, no plates, a couple of bowels which didn’t look overly clean, a few muffins, croissants, cereals, apples and pots of of pre-prepared fruit. This lead us to just have a coffee and leave, but in doing so went to Beachcomber Cafe and had an incredible breakfast! The next day we decided to give their Brunch a try with my sister and brother-in-law… this really redeemed them! My brother-in-law and I had a Big Traditional Scottish Breakfast, my sister had a regular Traditional Scottish Breakfast and my husband had Toast & Jam as well as a bowel of Porridge with Honey (which wasn’t on the menu but they kindly made it) - everything was cooked well, nice and hot, great quality ingredients, this time lovely coffee and very friendly and helpful staff, this certainly made up for the previous day. Based on our overall experience we WOULD still be happy to stay here again. The Bar 5*: Brilliant family and dog friendly pub with a HUGE selection of Whiskey and Gins, very knowledgeable head(?) barman who was very helpful with drink pairings, incredibly friendly and always smiling. Everything was well priced and the burgers, mac&cheese and chicken thighs were all very tasty and well cooked, remaining juicy, tender and flavoursome with mac&cheese being nice and gooey. Comfortable seating, good music and a warm atmosphere, my husband and I loved sitting in here for hours with my sister, brother-in-law, nephew.

Great place to sit in the evening summer sun. Very extensive menu. The haggis fritters were great for a starter.. lovely with the peppercorn sauce. The salmon salad was delicious, and the salad dressing was very tasty. I'll definitely be back to try something else. Prices are very reasonable too! Went back again for a birthday meal with a group of around 30. Service was good, if a little slow. Again, I had the haggis fritters for starters, and then had the duo of seafood which was just OK. The chocolate fondant for dessert was delicious though!! Update on review. This place has really upped its game. New chef?? The food this time was excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

We received a warm welcome when we popped in, early evening, looking for a light meal. There was a good and varied menu and plenty on offer on the gluten free choices. We had starters followed by the special of a coffee and smaller portion pudding which suited us very well. Our starters were delicious and I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw my Eton Mess! It arrived in a tea mug-I’m sure I got more than another customer who ordered the full size. It was the best Eton Mess I’ve had! Plenty of seating both in the building and outside ( with a great sea view!) Would definitely eat here again if we were in the area.

Had to go to Rhu for a week long training course and I was booked into the Ardencaple hotel by my employer. Now it’s great to be lucky enough to have this privilege but the hotel was a disaster from the off.||When I checked in I was met by a guy who looked like I shouldn’t have been there and he gave me my room key, room 3 single room. I went into the room and the toilet light and fan were on. I thought this was strange but the wet feet prints and towels kind of trumped the light and fan. The bed looked like someone was still in there and the team and coffee wrappers were all over the place. I went straight back to reception to complain and ask for a new room but this was all they had available so I told them they needed to get it sorted and I would be back in 30 mins. The house keeper boasted to me she could do the rooms in 20 mins and I said well you think you would have it right by now then. ||Anyway room sorted and I’m to the food and service. First night I waited nearly 20 mins for someone to take a drinks order and then another 15 for a food order this was terrible as it was t even busy. Food came one hour later and it was poor by all standards. I never said anything that night but I should have as it never improved. Night two was much the same with a new girl training but the trainer was terrible and quite bossy but the girl was pretty slow again as for the rest of the staff. Quicker than the first night but still slow. Food arrived and this time the starter came which was ok. Plates cleared and then another 20 min wait for main, only for the same starter to arrive that I had just eaten. I complained to the waiting staff and said this was poor and she apologised and took it back. Another 15 mins and my mac and cheese arrived. Chips overcooked and mac and cheese not heated all the way through. I left as I could see no way of improving the evening.||Why did I stay and not eat somewhere else, well the company had paid for Dinner bed and breakfast so o hate waste so felt obliged.||Night 3 was better, a young guy that was very efficient and organised which made a massive difference but again food was just ok. Last night was back to normal with slow service and terrible food.||I would say this was down to very poor management and inexperienced staff, I understand it is difficult to get good staff for hospitality nowadays but the service was shocking and this comes down to management.||Anyway I have told my employer and they will now never use this hotel again for staff training.||I personally will never go back but I do hope it gets better as it’s a small town and they need...

We visited this hotel with friends. Totally disappointed.|Three rooms booked. Room 19, Bathroom door broken at bottom, door would not close leaving 4inch gap. Net curtains were very dirty. The windows could not be shut correctly as draft strip put around the sides. This leads to a lot of outside traffic noise. making an uncomfortable nights sleep. The coffee in the room was out of date by 4 years. When mentioned at reception about the door, reply was oh yea its split. So why had this not been corrected before anyone was allocated this room. The food in the restaurant was left to be desired. The Chicken that was ordered had been left to dry out and not hot. we were compensated with a drink each.. The fire alarm went off at 7 am and a further 2 times. When mentioned at reception they said the toaster set it off. Only 3 personnel on. We were told that there was a tannoy system. but this was not used. As A health and safety concern this should have been used to inform all staying guests there, that it was a false alarm, especially for those staying on the top floor. The breakfast was not even worth taking about. Waiting time was way to long. choice was poor. |Room 20, milk was out of date, there was mould on the windows. the fans outside went off at night but one was still on.|Room 22, Coffee out of date by 4 years. There was a dirty towel with dirty footprints left in the bathroom. the sink was cracked and there was also a leak.|when stating the above at reception and asked for a manger, we were told that there was no one on site. (this was about 9;35) our friends were told a member of the management team would be in touch. |This Hotel is not upto the same standard as other Green King locations.|Our friends in room 22 had a phone call from Kerry, who stated that she had just taken over at the hotel. They received a refund for the room. they were told that the rooms 19 & 20 would receive vouchers. This was to the value of £20 between rooms 19 & 20. when trying to contact Kerry at the hotel. the E-Mails were screened by Green King Customer services preventing contact.|This is not you would expect from Green King. Think this was answered by a jobs worth to prevent any further compensation. Look forward to Kerry's and green King's comments.|WOULD NOT STAY HERE AGAIN. |Better Green King pubs in Kent and Suffolk along with professional staff who are customer focused.|SEE SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWS WITH...
