Positive experience with a little bit of negative. My first time visiting here, the place is absolutely beautiful. Really lovely atmosphere although not much privacy where we we were seated. We had booked a table for two and were seated in a corner, there were other diners right next to us, we could all hear each other's conversations clearly as we were all so close. This didn't bother us at all, but might bother some. We were given a bottle of water on the table when we arrived, which was a nice touch, but it was warm with no ice so I had to order a cold iced water, but I can only drink water when I'm eating. The menu looked good, there were only maybe three things from the mains I would've liked so I went for the lemon and thyme chicken with white wine and tarragon sauce and I wasn't disappointed, as it was absolutely delicious! It was quite a small portion compared to other restaurants but it was seasoned perfectly and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was surprisingly full afterwards! However if you are a big eater or a man then you would would be best ordering a side or 3 courses. It was a bit pricey though, over £20 for the main alone. The service was quick however when we were handed the bill we noticed there was a 10% service charge added onto it. I felt this wasn't good on the servers part as there was no mention of this at all. I noticed when the other tables were given their bill, again no mention of this either which I felt wasn't good customer service, as it is meant to be an optional charge. How can it be optional when you are not making customers aware? This might not bother some people but I really felt this was rude and for me personally, this really let the place down. I usually always tip good service, but really did not like the way this was done. My friend had been before and had never even noticed this charge so she was tipping on top of the service charge totally unaware. She wasn't happy at all when she realised. However I would go back on the odd occasion as the food was nice, but if the service charge wasn't mentioned again, I would make a point of asking it to be removed as I feel it is basic manners and good service to notify...

It's not our first visit here, and we typically have a good time here.

However, on the 2 recent visits, whilst the service was good, we had nice servers who do their best, the kitchen seemed to have issues.

First time we visited before Christmas, they took our orders before coming back to tell us they were out of dough, so no burger, no pizzas. Which was a bit disappointing, albeit understandable since it was the festive period and if an item was unavailable, why take the order? Something that affects as many items on your menu as being "out of dough" isn't exactly a minor detail.

Second time we visited, it was another interesting visit. We had a nice visit and the servers were the usual nice and friendly.

The disappointment this time was that due "to health and hygiene", burgers cannot be served medium...which was interesting and not what I'd expect from a gastro pub.

I decided on the Forest Mushroom Pizza that was lacking in both the "Porcini" and the "Wild" as described in the menu.

Feedback was shared with our server who very promptly offered a side of sautéed onions and mushrooms to make up for the lack of on the pizza, which I was grateful to accept, but that defeats the purpose of a pizza that is supposed to be about porcini and wild mushrooms.

For an 11" to 12" pizza, the bits of Mushroom in my picture is just a tad disappointing in my opinion.

I decided to pick the mushrooms out just to make sure they weren't hidden under the sauce, and all those pictured were all that were on the pizza.

The extra mushrooms in one of the pictures is from the side of sautéed onions mushrooms added by our server.

The manner the pizza was cut was another curious matter, what would justify the pizza being cut in this manner?

We had a lovely server who tried her best to solve these issues, and generously took the pizza off our bill, but it definitely was not what you'd expect from an advertised gastro pub.

The rest of the dining party had wonderful food, so perhaps burgers and pizza just aren't their forte.

Not a bad review, just a disappointed one because it is a lovely place with...

We had a lovely evening at this restaurant with excellent service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that really made the night special. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit.

The food quality was genuinely good - we started with the camembert for four people, which was delicious and hit the mark perfectly. However, our main disappointment came with the Temptation board, which cost £39 but simply wasn't substantial enough for our group. While what was provided tasted fine, the portion size didn't justify the premium price point.

On a brighter note, the desserts were lovely and really impressed us - they were beautifully presented and tasted excellent, definitely a highlight of the meal.

The food quality was generally good - we started with the camembert for four people, which was delicious and hit the mark perfectly. However, we had mixed results with other dishes. The lentil soup was quite disappointing - very plain and bland, and we had to add a lot of salt and black pepper to give it any flavor. The restaurant does a great job creating a nice atmosphere and the service was really good, but the sharing specials just aren't worth the money. We'd definitely go back for the lovely setting, friendly service, and amazing desserts, but we'd avoid the expensive sharing boards and bland soup next time and just order regular dishes instead.

Overall, a nice spot for the atmosphere, service, and desserts, but be careful with the sharing platters and soup - they don't give you good value for...

This is an upmarket pub. The restaurant is stunning. The bar is separate and lovely. Huge outdoor area. The venue is dog friendly in certain sections. Food looks amazing. The attention to detail in the decor is so stunning. The atmosphere is amazing. Family venue. Great for large group meetings and small date nights. Car park at the top with stairs down. Great weekly/monthly social activities open to all. Sadly we did not have a good experience. You definitely have to book in advance as they are busy. The business however meant the staff were not attentive. We had an issue with our food no management came to speak to us. No one gave our bill when we asked for it. We eventually went up to pay for it and was given a bill and waited 10min for someone to return to us to take a payment. These things add up for the customer experience and sadly ours was not too good. We definitely would try again because every place deserves a chance but won't be rushing over either.
