Fine little restaurant and great little bar! First visit was strictly for dinner in the restaurant side as this was the closest restaurant to our self-catering rental, and we truly enjoyed the meal and the experience from the 3 puddings appetizers to the sweet pea & mint soup to the kidney & steak pie, to the fish & chips, to the daily special risotto, everything was really good! Couldn't have been any happier. Next visit was in the pub side for a drink or 2 on a Friday afternoon. That was a true hoot! Not only a great selection of real ales - including cask conditioned - CAMRA approved, but a comprehensive whisky list. Were that not enough, as we 4 couples were tending to our pints & drams, seemed that the whole lot of local thirty-somethings and their kids piled in to celebrate the coming of the weekend. Among the locals dropping by to check on the yanks as none other than our amiable hostess from our wonderful lunch at The Classroom in Nairn (nothing like a nice cross plug!). What a grand time for one & all being a part of the community! (Cue up the music for...
Read moreWent for a meal on Hogmanay and really enjoyed it. The meals were served very quickly and were freshly prepared and tasted great. I had my favourite starter which is the pigeon and black pudding. I used to have this here years ago and I'm sure it was with apple then, but it works with beetroot too. The only thing I missed was the soda bread that you used to get when you were waiting but I guess the person that made this is gone now! I was here for a steak and so that's what I had and because I'm pregnant I asked for it to be medium cooked (usually I'm med-rare), and it was cooked exactly to my liking. My partner had the risotto starter and then the venison and enjoyed both but struggled with the portions as they are not stingey! Which is a good thing! If I wasn't pregnant I would have tried a half pint of skull splitter ale, maybe next time! Special thanks to the young lads waiting the tables who were very polite and professional. I will be returning soon to try the other dishes, all of which...
Read moreNice place being close to Cawdor Castle it had a lot of tourists the Thursday lunch time we dined . I was shocked to see the humble fish and chips at £18 which i had due to the fact the steak and ale pie was sold out ( £18 ) . Being from Inverness and not a tourist, even given the fact we all know how pricey things are, come on, this is extreme . The food itself was of a good standard but not one i will remember . Interesting when the tourists are gone . We were served by very young staff that had poor food and drink knowledge which included not being told all food items were on ( see above ) , being asked straight the way for a drinks order when they themselves had limited news on what was available . A drink menu would have been nice . We asked for another drink but this was forgotten then coffee came to our table but it was the table behind that had ordered that . Room for...
