Visited here today. Dont think i have ever been happier to see the staff than they are to see me until i came here!
I arrived with my reusable coffee cup which i politely asked if they didn't mind rinsing out for me as we hadnt had an opportunity to wash it out beforehand. The response was salty but they obliged. I couldn't help but feel unwanted and unwelcome.
I bought a large latte and my partner bought a hot chocolate and a slice of apple pie after abruptly being told if he wanted a cold drink to go to the shop over the road.
Overall we had a disappointing visit after looking for a friendly coffee shop who valued their customers as much as the coffee they served and the critters they're supporting (stray cats).
The coffee tasted as bad as the attitude of the person who had served us. I can only assume we had been prejudged on our appearances. We can't all be perfect hippies but can try to make small changes such as reusble coffee cups which i had brought.
Oh, and we had asked if we could sit down but it seemed that the assistant had made our decision for us and informed that it was take out... even though there was tables inside and outside. We weren't even asked if we were wanting take...
Read moreLovely layout and location. The bookshop has a fantastic collection of mountaineering books, maps and guides. Coffee shop has some nice drink options and delicious cakes. Sadly the woman running the place has a face like thunder and soured the experience. After arriving at ten past 5 and having a look around the books, she took an instance distaste to our presence as had already mopped down the floors and prepared herself to go home to watch ‘The Weakest Link’. She ignored my general friendliness and positive feedback about the selection of books and barked out something about reopening at 9am. The fact is, the shop hours are advertised until 5.30pm. Despite this hostility and lack of people skills, we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and returned the following morning. She was of course still miserable and still encompassed a severe lack of customer service skills and for that the visits were left with a bitter taste. It’s a shame as the guy seemed very pleasant and the whole vicinity has great potential. By all means I’d recommend a visit, just don’t let the misery...
Read moreWe had lovely jam scones the size of your head here, loaded with about half a jar of jam each! Amazing! My son had a piece of vegan lemon cake and a vegan hot chocolate due to allergies and he was delighted as we'd only went in for a bagel for breakfast but they didn't have any lol. They also have lots of Mountain Coffee for sale and specialist books about hill climbing / camping in Scotland, also about climbing worldwide such as Mount Everest and Machu Piccu which I found to be a fantastic touch and really fitted in with the decor of the place. They have indoor and outdoor areas to enjoy your coffee break and the only reason I marked down a star is because we weren't given any napkins and the jam overload was a bit of a waste - we all had loads left on our plates. Regardless, I was grateful to find a cafe that my son could enjoy a treat in, even if it did mean cake for breakfast but we were on holiday so holiday...
