As I sit in the car waiting to cross the Clyde, with the lovely Scottish weather, blurring the view out of my car window, I write this about The Osborne.
I arrived 3 nights ago to meet up with friends I've known for 20 years, (but very rarely get to see now) for a Golfing trip.
The Osborne sits on the West Bank of the River Clyde, with a perfect vantage point for watching vessels sail up this huge river, Porpoises surfacing and Gannets falling from the sky to feed.
The Hotel is ran by Pete and Elliot, who are two of the most friendliest ), likeable guys you could ever meet. We were welcomed with 6 pints of Guinness and shown where are rooms were after a few more. My room which I shared with one of my mates was clean, comfortable and just what was needed.
Evening meals we outstanding, cooked to perfection by Elliot (who let's say has some experience in the kitchen ⭐️) I had the Ozzy XL Burger the first night, Chicken Tandori Wrap the second and then the third and final night a Ribeye Steak cooked in a Garlic and Sweet Chilli Glaze, which blew these popular steak house brands out of the water! No Doubt!!
Each night the bar was a welcoming sight and the Guinness flowed again. Plenty of space to play pass the pigs, throw some darts or just have a bit craic and put the world to rights. Oh and a few rum and cokes.
In the mornings it was then time for Croissant and Jam, with a side of Fruit Salad then to follow that, a full English with fresh orange to fill the remaining space. That was us then set for the day of Golfing...
9 holes are just around the corner at Innelen, 12 holes down the road at Cowal, which were both nice courses. But just a short drive taking in a couple of ferries was Millport GC on the Isle of Great Cumbrae, with some of the best views from any golf course that I've seen.
Anyway a 3 nights stay which was so perfect for a group of 6 ex firefighters who were looking to relax and drink, talking about days gone by, has to have a 5 star rating. Would I go back? Yes I am in 5 weeks with the family to get the Paddle boards on the Lochs and get some nice walks in.
Pete and Elliot and all the rest of your staff, you have been amazing hosts, i cant thank you guys enough, I wish you all the very best. Until...
Read moreBooked for Sunday Lunch yesterday. Wow, what a change from the lack lustre post-Covid experience found in many other restaurants these days. Too many eateries still blaming Covid on high production costs and serving ridiculously small portions for increased prices.
Contrastingly, The Osborne served a delicious Lamb Roast (my husband had Beef Roast, also delicious), with a bountiful Yorkshire Pudding, very, very good, and sizeable Roast Potatoes, and a very homely amount of Carrots, Broccoli, French Beans and Cauliflower together with plenty of tasty Gravy. The food was good and hot and remained consistently hot throughout eating. Plenty of lamb and beef. Two Course Menu for £23.00 each.
For Dessert we thoroughly enjoyed Warm, moist, beautifully filled, Chocolate Fudge Cake with a beautifully creamy vanilla ice cream and Sticky Toffee Pudding (amply covered in decadent Toffee Sauce) with ice cream too.
The members of staff ALL felt like family to us. Nothing was too much trouble at all. The hospitality shown towards was outstanding in every way.
Amazing panoramic view to rest our eyes upon.
Wonderful afternoon.
Thank you, all concerned; those in front of house and Elliot, the Chef and his assistants. Looking forward to our return already, perhaps for every future...
Read moreWe ate here tonight, the bar and waiting staff are fantastic BUT I specifically asked for no pepper because I hate it, it gives me indigestion and it brings me out in a big sweat. Before ordering the pork the waitress checked there was no pepper in it, when she returned I explained the reason why I didn't want pepper on my meal. When the meal arrived it was liberally sprinkled with black pepper, the waitress agreed she had told the chef no pepper and took my meal back to the kitchen where the chef said there was no more veg cooked so it was take it or leave it. There was nowhere else nearby so I was forced to try to pick off as much pepper as possible as I was hungry but it still ruined my meal. When it came time to pay the waitress said the boss refused to reduce the cost of my meal but gave me a half of beer free. This attitude is appalling and more what I would expect from an...
