A friend recommended The Winton so I thought my wife and I would dine here since we were sort of in the area. It was around 5pm we arrived during the week so it was very quiet. In fact we were the only ones there at first. The restaurant is very clean and you can tell it’s had a refreshing refurbishment. The staff were very nice, happy and welcoming. They were very attentive throughout. The menu isn’t overwhelming which was nice. They serve your traditional meals but there are a few dishes that a little more unique. For starters we shared the Gilmour’s haggis bon bons with Arran mustard aioli. These were great and a substantial size. The haggis was strong and the sauce complimented it very well. For mains my wife got a small fish and chips. She was asked if she would like it battered or breaded which was good personalised touch. She also requested that she had garden peas instead of purée which wasn’t a problem for them. My wife enjoyed her F&C. The fish was crispy on the outside but soft in the middle. The chips had a fluffy centre and the peas were nice, although there wasn’t that many of them. I decided to get the Ayrshire pork loin in parma ham. For a side I got the black truffle dauphinoise. I too enjoyed my meal. The pork and veg were well cooked and flavourful. The sauce was lovely. I also loved the dauphinoise which I’ve never had before. For dessert my wife got the sticky toffee pudding which came with caramelised banana. I got the iced glenkinchie cranachan parfait. Both of these desserts where gorgeous. Overall, we throughly enjoyed our dining experience here. Super staff, pristinely presentation, fabulous food and an amiable atmosphere. I probably wouldn’t choose to dine here often because its quite expensive but its good to know there’s a place out this way in which you’ll leave with a happy belly.

Loved it. I last came here before my wedding 15 years ago and to say it has been transformed is an understatement. The Winton has had a complete transformation thanks to its new owners, Caledonian Heritable. Both extended and also a significant amount spent on the kitchens, this has clearly been relaunched to be a destination pub. The menu has a great selection of very reasonably priced options and you’ll realize it’s even better value after you’ve eaten it given the quality of what you get. We were a party of 10, of both kids and adults and enjoyed both the normal menu and also the Christmas menu. I had the chicken liver parfait which was delicious (and not too orangey) and then the buttermilk chicken burger, which seems very large but is surprisingly ‘light’. Everyone else in our party loved their food. There’s also a good selection on the drinks menu. The Service was very pleasant indeed and we never had to wait too long, nor was it too quick! Overall it’s a great addition to East Lothian and without doubt a destination pub to visit for lunch, dinner or just a drink. The only thing it lacks in my view is a fire!

The Winton (they seem to have dropped the 'Arms') has just reopened for business. It's a very different offering from the local village pub of old. It has been thoroughly and totally modernised during the two-year hiatus and significantly increased in overall floor space with a full-blown professional kitchen. We went on day three of its reopening to try out the menu and were not disappointed. The food really was a step above what we were anticipating. However, it is not a value proposition. Prices are high and there are no low-cost options or, at this time, a kid's menu. The emphasis is very clearly on table service and much less so on just turning up for a pint or two at the bar. As a local resident I hope this place does really well but I'm a bit worried that the offering may need to expand to appeal to a wider base of locals and customers from further afield. Great start.

My wife and I went early Saturday evening for an anniversary dinner. The starters were excellent, but then the main courses arrived. My wife had the Sea Bass, expecting a reasonable sized piece of fish, she received a few thin pieces of tail end the skin was very rubbery. The accompanying, what she thought was something aubergine based vegetables, didn't look appetising at all, in fact it had a resemblance to something a dog had regurgitated.

I had the Beef and Bone Marrow burger. This at the start was a very tasty burger albeit, with the dressings rather oily, until I got to the last mouth full, which appeared to be more marrow than beef, which I had to remove from my mouth rather quickly. At this point I decided against a dessert, I had one from our freezer when I got home.

We had passed The Winton many times and had said we must try it. We had returned from an Holiday the day before and with it being our anniversary I thought we would go rather than cook at home. I am sorry I did now. To be honest I found The Winton to be slightly overpriced but under average food quality when compared to other restaurants in the surrounding area.

Very unlikely we...
