Lovely atmospheric, warm decor and we have been a few times now, its fairly local to us but most times we've been we have leftbquite disappointed. It's got potential to be a great wee place. Got a decent gin drinks menu but there was only 2 available and only 1 type of tonic left despite several advertised. perhaps should not give out the drinks list if majority of them are not actually available. There is a good big menu full of varied dishes to choose from and decent portions of both Tapas and main meals. Was told before we ordered there was at least 3 ingredients unavailable, but that eliminated at least 5-6 things off the menu. Wouldn't be that bothered except that it has happened a couple of times now when we have visited. To top it off our water jug was chipped and one of the Tapas was served burnt on top, it looked like it had been under a heater for too long. Lovely young man serving, friendly and welcoming but it was clear that he hasn't tasted much from menu and the other person serving appeared indifferent/bit bored. Sorry guys, probably...
Read moreTook my Basque wife here to try out the fair and give her a taste of home and must confess to being disappointed.
Firstly we had to wait over 30 minutes to see the first plate of tapas and although tapas, the portions were pretty small. They were also pretty expensive given the size. Remember, tapas is regularly given away free with drinks all over Spain so why it costs so much here is a mystery.
The salt cod was too salty probably as a result of it not being soaked for long enough or having the water changed regularly when soaking (as I'm reliably informed from my wife who has eaten this all her life).
We were still pretty hungry after a number of tapas (again down to the portion size) but decided to leave as the thought of waiting a further 30 minutes for something didn't appeal to either of us.
The most enjoyable thing was my wife being able to have a taste of home with a Patxaran. However, the price being charged for a shot was high given what a bottle of this would cost.
All in all: food was average at best, service was slow and...
Read moreDisappointed after our most recent visit. Arrived bang on time but our table wasn’t ready (fair enough) 6 in our party and they tried to cram us into a small table for 4 at the window. No apology, no explanation whatsoever.. It appeared no one was actually in charge. Not the best of starts. The restaurant was very busy so we knew it was going to be a long night. Table of 2 next to us eventually left so we were given some more space. Drinks took forever to arrive and it was obvious they were under staffed and under pressure. Food is expensive for what it is, especially the patatas bravas. Very small plate and they charge an absolute fortune for it. We had to ask for some sauce as it was not produced at the time. Overall, we are disappointed with our visit. Had a member of staff approached us and explained the position regarding the table / poor service, it would have been appreciated as opposed to just blanking us. They could clearly see we were unhappy. Don think we’ll...
