Last night we were in this pub to watch Real Madrid v Liverpool. We were a party 5 people. All good, apart from Liverpool losing the game, until the final whistle when the pub manageress turned the TV's volume off. It was so quick that the referee still had the whistle in his mouth. This is the third time that this has happened. On the last three games that we watched there, the manageress took the same action. So, we requested the manageress to turn the volume back, but "groundhog day"... the manageress gave the same answer as she did on the previous two games. The response is that people is asking for music. It is a very strange reply as the games are in the middle of the week and at the least 80% of the customers, including dinners, are there to watch the game and this is very clear by the reaction of the people during the game and comparing any other nights from Monday - Thursday, when there is no games, so the pub is basically empty. When people go to a pub to watch a football game or a sport event, we expect to see the commentaries and interviews after the final whistle. It is very annoying as we are still drinking and spending our money in the pub. It is also very unprofessional from the manageress, when asked to turn the volume back, being abrupt when replying to our request. We note that there are posters on the walls around the pub inviting people to watch football games in there, but there is no warning about turning the TV sound off right at the final whistle. What is very shocking is that the manageress was misleading us about people/customers asking for music. On one of the previous occasions that this happened, after requesting the manageress to turn on the volume back and the reply was that people wants to listen to music, she left for the night. So, we asked one of the bartenders to turn the volume on, the bartender kindly did and there were no further issues with people asking for music. Perhaps, proper warning should be giving to customers, who then can have the option and make a decision whether to watch the game in another local pub, like The Valentine, where we will definitely be going to watch the next Liverpool game..... Please Blue Anchor (owner), do not waste your time in replying to...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars then that's what I would have done. Went in on Tuesday tea time.It was quite.Tables had a empty glass or two on each table that needed to be cleared.Sat at our table and my wife went and got a cloth to whipe of the the last dinning experience. Strangely enough this was a common theme with customers cleaning down there own tables and high chairs. The place was minging upon closer inspection . ordered food. And taken 25 mins to come. You would associate Hungary Horse with a large meal. Not now it should be Hungary Pony. Got large mixed grill, if you cold call it that it was shockingly small. Meat portion look like off cuts of meat and very thin at that. Steak was the size of a shoe heal and had the same consistency. Had the meal and very disappointed and tasteless. This is typical of buying in cheap and poor quality frozen food from supplier's to keep cost down.does not work as people will pay the extra for decent food. After that uneventful meal we decided to have a desert as you can not cock up a dessert.we ordered it and after 30 mins of waiting went to counter complained and get refund for deserts and left. So this will be the last time we will go to Blue Anchor. Pop very the past times we have noticed a decline in the place. The place is dirty .If you don't believe me have a good look around.carpets could do with a clean. The cleaners need sacking as I seen stale dried old food in the corners between carpets and walls.tables and menus sticky ,now that speaks volumes and has potential for food poisoning if you don't wash you hands before you eat.Knives and forks dirty. Then the food was of poor quality and service shocking. Shame really as this place was a great place to eat. People vote with there feet,so we are off...
Read moreWe decided to have a meal here, mainly due to the play area. The outside looks tired but my little girl liked the play area so happy with that. When we came in the pub it wasn't hugely busy. It took us a couple of tries to find a table that wasn't either wobbly or sticky. We ordered our food through the app, where we found lots of options were out of stock. We ordered the super specials as they are on offer for £10 on a Saturday. My order of Lamb Keema Stack came out looking like it had been dumped on a plate from a great height. The samosas were dry and crushed up with a few chips, soggy crushed poppadoms and dumped with what looked like mince and peas. My picture is how it arrived at the table. The texture of the soggy chips and poppadoms was really off putting. The other two meals were fine, burgers and nuggets hard to get wrong. The service was ok at this point. We ordered deserts, it took 45 minutes for them to come out after asking staff twice where they were. They also came out separately, far apart enough that each was finished before the next came out. The toilets smelt mouldy and the hand drier did not work. The whole pub could do with an update- it could be amazing again, just looks so rundown now. Service was ok and play area is an asset in residential area for a pub but let down by kitchen and food. Other hungry horse food is much better than this one, suggesting it is a kitchen fault rather than menu/supplier. It's a shame as we would visit often with the play area being there but after this visit we...
