We went on December 30th 2019 for my birthday meal with my family. 8 people in total. When we walked in the raised area where the tables are for eating meals was blocked off with a chair. And on every single one of the tables was plates and the remnants of peoples meals and empty glasses. It looked like that had been that way for quite some time. We eventually noticed two table next to each other that also was pulled high with the remnants of a family or twos meals. This was the only available option for us to take and be able to get all 8 of us sitting together. My wife was unable to sit down as there was ketchup all over the seat. It took a while for us to be able to get this cleaned by a member of staff. We started to clean down our own tables and scrape plates etc etc and finding a half empty table nearby we stacked the dishes onto that so we didnt have to sit there looking at half eaten meals. The table next to us then informed us that our table had been sitting like that for over an hour with bo attempt by staff to clear it and get it ready for new customers. ""ALARM BELLS SHOULD HAVE RANG"" My wife went up to place the order for the meals and drinks at the bar. I am a rescue officer with the Coastguard and have a Blue light card which entitles me to a discount of 20% off of purchases from Hungry Horse however when my wife presented this she was told that the Nags Head doesnt accept this and no discount was given. The floor around the bar was extremely sloppy and unsafe for the customers and my wife and my sister in law who has not long had a baby had to support themselves at the bar whilst ordering. (Wish it was alcohol related but alas no) The food when it came out was an embarrassment from start to finish. Three of us ordered the sizzling chicken breast skewers which came out on meant to be hot metal dishes with peppers onions etc but again the metal dish was Luke warm and certainly not sizzling in any type of description so I knew something wasnt right. I felt my chicken skewers and they were Luke warm. The sauce that came with the meal was jellied and had obviously not been made fresh. The presentation of the meal was extremely poor and no pride had been put into producing the meals at all. When I cut into the chicken skewers they were extremely soft and felt like they were undercooked. Having been the victim of undercooked food from here "Nags Head" a few years previously I was hoping that lessons had been learnt. My two children complained about the exact same thing that the chicked tasted funny and was squishy. I wasnt prepared to carry on with my meal. I went and spoke to a member of staff "Laura" and voiced my concerns, she came over to the table and informed us that the chicken was cooked properly and I questioned her and it was then that we were told that the food in fact comes in already cooked and all they do is "RE-HEAT" the meals up and serve them up. Excuse me but if I'm paying out my hard earned money I expect fresh cooked meals not reheated. Laura then offered to swap the three chicken breast skewer meals to three chicken southern fried skewers options but again we were informed that they are prepared the exact same way bit they are a bit tastier. I wasnt taking any chances in uncooked chicken and the three meals were taken off of our table. The only option open to us was 1 plate of chips as a replacement. NO REFUND FOR THE CHICKEN MEALS, NO OTHER REPLACEMENT CHOICE.......CHIPS AND ONLY CHIPS !!! We made our decision to leave so I went into the toilet to wash my hands only to step into what I fan only describe as a few inches of urine that covered the entire floor of the gents toilets. The place absolutely stunk to high heaven. We then left as a family and vowed never to go back here again. Lessons still havent been learnt reheated meals dont ut it in this day and age. If the bar is busy especially over the festive period then more staff should be taken on to at least clear down tables and keep the place remotely clean and tidy and to also give customers more chance of...
Read moreVisited today. Menu choice is not great, chose sizzler steak and cod and chips. Steak was bland, mushrooms dried up as if they had been microwaved. The batter on the fish was burnt on the outside and slimy on the inside. Ordered desserts and waited for over 20 minutes and in the meantime had to ask for our main course dishes to be removed, the pub was not busy and staff seemed to be milling around, one man who I later found worked there and may well have been the manager, was playing on gaming machine rather than ensuring customers were happy. Eventually one dessert arrived and we were told that the other one we had ordered was sold out and when I said I had waited that long someone else must have had it I was told that they had not had any all day so the order should not have been taken A neighbouring table had waited over 20 minutes for starters, when they asked they were told it would be 4 minutes, they asked again after another 10 and were told they were coming and that there were only 2 chefs in for 100 diners, there were nowhere near 100 people in the pub, also saw other people complaining about the wait for food Last visited about 8 years ago and had a bad experience then of a similar nature, thought we would try again, so sorry we did, this chain of pubs do themselves no favours. Only glad I had Tesco reward vouchers so that I did not waste actual cash on this food Date of visit:...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting The Nags Head, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with just the right blend of cozy charm and lively energy. The staff were incredibly attentive and made us feel like old friends.
The food was exceptional — each dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. (My personal favourite was the quadzilla burger meal and if you like burgers is definitely worth a go) I ordered the fish and chips, and it was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had, with perfectly crispy batter and tender, flaky fish. My brother had the steak, which was cooked to perfection, and the side dishes were fresh and flavorful.
One of the standout features here is the variety on the menu; there’s something for everyone, from traditional pub classics to more refined dishes. And of course, the drink selection is fantastic, with an impressive range of ales, wines, and cocktails that make it easy to find the perfect pairing for your meal.
The Nags Head really does have it all — great food, great drinks, and a fantastic team who make you feel right at home. Whether you’re in the mood for a casual lunch, a romantic dinner, or just a place to relax with friends, this is the place to go. Can’t wait...
