Honestly, the sheer audacity of the new "Dog Rules" here has left me utterly fuming. As a responsible dog owner, I am accustomed to being mindful of others, but this list reads like it was written by someone who actively despises our furry companions. "Please be considerate"? Excuse me, but the tone of the entire sign is anything but considerate! It's accusatory and frankly, quite rude. The subsequent litany of demands feels like we're being treated like unruly children, not valued customers. The Scotch used to be a really nice pub that gave a nice welcoming atmosphere. We enjoyed stopping off here after a long dog walk as it's in the perfect area. From looking at the points made we know there's one staff member (Blonde Lady) who is less than welcoming to dogs so I guess she's the one who typed this up. No dogs that Bark? I'm sorry should I ask my dog to 'Meow' instead? "It drives some people insane" - just feels rude and hostile. This is a blatant and insulting generalisation about dogs. If they can't tolerate the occasional natural sound a dog might make, perhaps this lady should consider a different line of business. The arbitrary time restrictions on Friday and Saturday evenings feel unnecessarily restrictive and unwelcoming. No dogs after 8pm inside? Exactly what harm are they doing after 8pm? The begrudging "Thanks" at the end does little to soften the harsh and negative tone of the entire message also. It feels more like an afterthought, a mere formality after a list of demands that paints dog owners as a nuisance Don't think I'll be coming back again as it all of a sudden doesn't seem welcoming. Good Job we have the likes of The Running Horses who will now be getting all my custom. Especially on a Friday and Saturday night.

I have no idea why this place scores so well. Turned up on my bike, and great roads around it. But asked, once someone decided to come through and serve those waiting, for just a cheese barm, and it seemed beyond the person how to do this or what to charge! Asked for a pint of lime and soda and they came back with a glass, so corrected them. In the end just a pint of lime and soda and a packet of crisps, and £3.70. I didn't comment on this price, as just wanted to get out of the place and the terrible staff. Don't know what they were on, but whatever it is, I'll have two of it, but not when working!! I have just read the owners reply. I would not normally continue a discussion, but I want to point out that I do give 5 star reviews the majority of times, and like to think I am fair, and give an indication of the quality of food, service, and value, and hence warn people of establishments that do not meet the standards you would expect. The speed of response (2 weeks) perhaps serve to underline my original comment about speed of service and, because of the delay, they were unable to identify the facts behind the reason for my displeasure. There were not a load of bikers that had suddenly appeared, in fact it was quiet. Also, perhaps their thought the reference was to drugs also suggests their train of thought. A zen yoga session is equally plausible to put someone in a calm, non rushed mood. However, I do agree, this place is definitely not for me as I do enjoy establishments that offer good food, good service, at a fair price. Still one star I'm afraid, and perhaps one less for an owner that doesn't take criticism well.

This is one of my favourite pubs in the world. To go inside and have a drink is close to stepping back in a time machine and entering the 14th century (I believe when the inn was built). Its retained its authenticity and originality and this can be seen in its architectural style, heavy wooden beams, thatched roof and low ceilings/doorways. If the walls could talk they would have near 6-700 years of history and tales. I love having an ale in here and sitting amidst the still and timeless atmosphere. If youre with a small group you'll notice how quiet it is inside. Decor and seating suits the style and is cosy, reminding me of pubs of old. They have a small selection of beer and ale which is enough for me. I didn't try the food although they offered that too. On a Wednesday night there is a biker social gathering meaning its a bit busier but still welcoming and not too long a wait to be served. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. I'd recommend this place to anyone interested in history even if just to have a look around.
