I really don't know what was going on tonight at this venue. I have eaten here regularly over the last five years and had booked a specific table ( via Adam who was always brilliant!) by the fire for my partners birthday. A request for confirmation was received from open table which i confirmed. On arrival we found the table had been given to customers who had walked in, I was told it was due to the fact we were late as the table had been booked for 7pm! I showed them the confirmation on my phone clearly showing 7-30pm this was answered by "That's not us it's open table!!" However they did admit they provided the info to them. We were then sat on a side table in the bar. The meal was sub standard with broccoli i needed a steak knife to even stand a chance of cutting ! I accept things go wrong but the mark of a good business is how they put things right. These guys made absolutely no attempt. We sadly won't be going back any time soon which is a shame as it's a lovely venue. The George and Dragon is only up the...
Read moreThe only saving grace for this pub is the outstanding quality of a good Harveys Pint and the changing hands of many managers in the past that have always been very friendly. But one of the many issues that has always stood out in this pub, is the employment of young in-experienced staff. It is difficult to enjoy a meal in the dinning room area as your order always either comes incomplete or not atall. Just seems to be a lack of communication between the front of house staff and the kitchen, which is a real shame. The newest manager is a wierd and wonderful character as he seems very eager to take away your dessert plate from your table. And they're a bit mean with the custard. I was asked 3 times in the space of an hour by him and his member of staff if I had finished with it yet. Other irritating moments arose throughout the night, which had me not even finishing my beer and choosing to storm out of the establishement as the manger was pestering and really getting...
Read morePleasant, very popular pub in Chipstead Village, near Sevenoaks, Kent, the front of which overlooks a lake and green on the opposite side of the road. Parking is along the roadside only. Good quality typical pub grub is served at reasonable prices. Several vegetarian options are also included on the menu. Booking for evening meals is essential to secure a table. Service is good and friendly. The restaurant and pub is inclined to be crowded and noisy. Whilst overall I quite enjoyed my visit with friends, the level of noise from patrons in the bar area and particularly other diners in the compact restaurant proved difficult to bear and at its worst made conversation during the evening meal almost impossible, as each table party, fueled by alchohol in some cases, seemed to talk ever louder to make themselves heard over the volume of others, - somewhat reminiscent of children in a school canteen. For that reason only, I doubt I shall venture there again for an...
