Came here previously with some friends and loved it. However the second time we came back it was very disappointing and over priced. We sat down, then we got asked to move because the lady was worried about the 2 year old having her head knocked. I then ended up moving most of the cutlery over to the table we moved to.

We didn’t get offered a drink for around 15 minutes of being seated or given menus or asked, if we wanted a starter. I then had to collect our own menus from the till. (According to manager this didn’t happen, not sure why I would make this up).

Lady serving us was friendly enough and staff were too. According to manager there were two people on hand upstairs. There was one lady. Everytime I looked round she was cleaning a table.

However we then had items missing on our roasts, no check backs. We had to ask about where our missing food was. We asked for horse radish. One of the waitresses tried to spoon horse radish onto our plate as they were running out.

The manager who I spoke to was incredibly rude after I had emailed into say about my experience. Which i have only ever done once in my life. He also said he had tried to ring me but apparently it didn’t go through I had to email again a week later. After receiving the email I had written. He said was confused by what had happened said and it didn’t match up to what his staff had said.

Apparently I was wrong about what had happened and that we received our drinks within 4 minutes of being there. Interesting as I had to find someone to ask for some drinks after 15 minutes. So not sure what table received drinks within that time.

Apparently I was also wrong about my events of what happened as well. We had two people turn up late which I informed the pub of straight away when I got there. I did have to change an order which properly was not ideal for the pub. The manager then tried to make out that this was the reason for lack of vegetables and missing Yorkshire.

He then asked me what I would like to happened and would get back to me and didn’t. If you can’t take on feedback then is there a solution? Manager then tried to tell me that they are struggling at the moment money wise. Which everyone is why we choose to support this pub again.

However to spend £145 on a roast and recommend it to friends to then be told you are not correct, his staff are correct and what you have informed him off is wrong. Very poor management and service.

Wouldn’t normally write something this long, or spend time doing it, but could not believe the rudeness of the manger. Please look at all my other reviews I have written in the past 3-4 years to see I have never left...

The George is a lovely place over all, the food is always interesting and cooked to very high standards. The burger is a favourite (as is the local ale!) with my other half. I cannot eat red meats myself but always find something delicious on the menu. The menu changes with what's in season and is sourced as locally as possible. (for me this is very appealing, I believe in local community supporting local business's)

The staff are always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful...but most importantly, they seem happy! As someone in the catering /restaurant trade this speaks volumes to me. Happy workplace = productive staff who want the business to do well and produce their best work to make that happen =great food and great service!

The George is a beautiful building tucked away in the stunning village of Chipstead. Blink and you miss it... BUT its deceptive from the front! The garden is lovely, with fairy lights, tables and chairs. Inside is cozy in a good way, mismatched chairs around each table, a huge open fireplace in the centre of the room with a dangerously comfy leather sofa to enjoy after dinner drinks.

Its not a cheap place to eat but I feel the quality and care taken to produce the food...

2 people sat at the table on time and 2 of us arrived 13 minutes late. We ordered our food and service was rather slow (but that’s given as it was busy so we didn’t mind). After our starters and mains, we asked for dessert and they said “sorry we need the table back as it’s been 2 hours”. We said okay we just want to order a few puddings and we’ll be out your way. They said sorry there is no time for desserts as we need the table back. Clearly, profit over quality and service at this pub. Taking too many bookings back to back, and kicking you out even though their service was slooooow. Rather shocking for a country pub, poor dining etiquette overall. It was rather awkward being refused pudding on a Sunday afternoon. Defo lost us 4 as a customer. Despite having travelled an hour to get here as we had heard good reviews.. I had to ask for a straw 4 times which is not something I would care about but the audacity to kick paying customers out just because they want to overload their profits. Very unkind behaviour, went down to the bullfinch who happily welcomed us, gave us a very big table to have our puddings and hot drinks. We explained the George and the dragon...

On a cold Autumn Sunday we stumbled upon this beautiful pub and were greeted by friendly faces and an open fire. It’s an old building and feels like a classic English pub. It was busy too. Very busy. But we were just two and they kindly squeezed us in and we were treated to the best Sunday Roast. We started with some homemade bread, roast garlic, olives and some beer from the local brewery in Westerham. It was all delicious and and great prelude to the main event - two thick slices of rare but very tender sirloin of beef accompanied by roast spuds, parsnips, carrots and a mound of tasty, green cabbage. There was obviously a good-sized Yorkshire pudding but also a huge jug of gravy which was left on the table so you could help yourself. We really liked that the horseradish was served by the waiter from a bowl rather than the obligatory jar of Colman's dumped on the table too. Nice touch. It really was a perfect roast. I’d love to tell you about the puddings but we were stuffed. Highly recommend - I doubt there’s a better Sunday roast in Kent.

A lovely setting for a pub & restaurant with beams and uneven floors. Retro furniture that's mismatched but it all adds to the ambience. It's a busy place but thats because it is popular. The food is excellent and pricey but well presented and so full of flavours. Most of the ingredients are sourced from local farms and producers so everything is fresh. Good service and knowledgeable staff. The wine list is extensive and if you are keen on cocktails there are many to choose from. A perfect place for a romantic meal or drink. Unfortunately the car park is very small. At busy times you'll be better off parking towards the top of the hill rather than in the pubs car park.

The food was a delicious and the menu really interesting, but I think we suffered from a case of expectations vs reality. The vibe of the pub is traditional and cosy with a fire place and cute dogs, but the menu didn't quite match up to the hearty pub meal we were hoping for. It aligned more with a refined British restaurant, smaller portions and slightly over priced. Having said all that, the food we did eat was very tasty, special mention to the braised leek dish, which was entirely vegan, but very creamy. The staff were also very attentive and the decor with dark wooden beams was lovely.
