Message for Dan (Manager).
I visited with my friend back in August 23. We had drinks in the lovely garden as it was a sunny Friday afternoon. My friend originally booked our table for 4pm but we had a lot to catch up on, having not seen each other for many, many years, so we went in and asked if we could change our reservation for a later table. It wasn't busy at all so were told it wasn't a problem. We were even offered to choose where we wanted to sit. It was a hot day so we decided against the conservatory and sat in the main restaurant. The staff were friendly. Even though the pub is in dire need of refurbishment (the seating had faux fur rugs on to cover up the torn seats) we had a nice dinner and dessert. We were having such a lovely time that we stayed for more drinks afterwards. We even went back out to the garden. We had spent quite a lot of money so I was a tad disappointed to receive a parking fine. I contacted the pub immediately to seek their help. I gave my reservation details to prove I was a paying customer. I was advised it wouldn't be a problem and they would cancel it immediately. I contacted them via their website on the same day too. Several calls discussing this with different people, voicemails left chasing them, emails, a discussion with Dan (Manager) and complaints via their complaint/parking fine section of their website. My parking charge is still not resolved. To the point it was sent to a debt recovery company. They were happy to take our money but not happy to keep to their word.
To say I am disgusted is an understatement. I have been chasing since August. We are now in a new year so I want answers. I have never experienced this with any other pub that I have visited in the UK. I was assured this would be resolved every time I have spoken to someone in the restaurant. What started out as a lovely lunch/dinner catch up with a dear old friend has been ruined by bad management. We could have chosen so many better managed pubs. To which I hugely regret now. I have been very patient indeed. I'm not the sort of person to leave a 1 star review for no reason but you have left me with no choice. Hopefully someone will read this and pull their finger out. I need this resolved ASAP!!!!

Read morePoor from start to finish. No greeting on arrival at the main entrance, no direction to the vehicle registration terminal. Drinks choice for BEER/ALE is exceptionally bad for an English country pub, offering of just 2 IPA versions is poor as one is like drinking lemonade and the other does not match the "Full Bodied" description offered on the menu. There is a local brewery just a few minutes up the road, which should be using to offer a "Special" which can be turn over on a regular basis. There are hand pumps on the bar for cask ales but these are for show only. Also no bottled Ales, surely a Shepherd Neame Spitfire, or Harveys Sussex Bitter, or even a Greene King IPA should be made available. Food was terrible. This venue offers a continental/Spanish style menu but , in my opinion, they cannot cook this. The croquettes were over cooked and had very little beef flavour, would get more flavour from a jar of Shippams paste and for the price, the portion size is poor. The Octopus offered as a special was very small and represented a piece of rubber. The plate was filled with a black stodge which was supposed to be squid ink paella. The prawns (4) for £10 were cooked okay but lacked real flavour. I live in Spain so I know what to expect. The Roasts were very FATTY especially the Pork, very little rendering down of the fat was done and the crackling had a dentist visit written all over it, as it was like concrete.
The waiting staff ruined their service by actually asking for a tip, especially when we helped clear the table and then had to wait for some time for them to come back and complete the job was disappointing. We also asked for water on several occasions but had to offer 2 reminders.
This is more of a Ghastly pub rather than a Gastro pub and we will...
