First time we been in here in 3 years. As it was my wife and ours anniversary we though we go have some dinner here. We used to come regularly but since we had children we don't get the opportunity to go out much. Having come in at approximately 12.35pm I placed my order at the bar 12.43 pm we didn't receive or food till 1.25pm we was the second party in the pub to order. The food that came out was not amazing at all the kids chicken nuggets was well done crispy was a understatement. My youngest couldn't eat them. I ordered triple hunters sounded amazing but same again the chicken was over cooked and crisp. My wife had southern fried chicken burger same again. I wouldn't expect this to happen on a quiet period. At all and to take this long in cooking. God help you when you are busy. A old couple came in and ordered there food and there's was out in 15 min. What had we done wrong finally When I ordered at the bar the original order I ordered my children's dessert two kids make there own sundae. So me and my wife thought we have a dessert I went to the bar and ordered a oreo sundae and apple pie and custard. Along with two drinks and paid. When the dessert came out only the apple pie and custard came out. I asked where are the sundaes. The girls said they had forgot to send them to kitchen. They would get them sent out when ready my wife didnt want to eat. While we waited so she sent hers back to stay warm. when they arrived back with the sundaes. My oreo sundae never came. I asked where was mine she said she that I never ordered it. Which Is wrong they said they must have not heard. They asked if I wanted to order one. I said what's the point as my family was half way through there desserts. There was no manager about to deal with complaints. I'm a bars manager myself I would never leave any member of my staff alone if they can't authorised. Or deal with a issue especially when both of the girls on had only been in the place of work for 3 weeks. Poor management is a understatement. This place looks good and is nice but run poor. The two girls working did there best to deal with the issues. Hammer and pincers don't...

Absolutely atrocious. Our meal consisted of pure incompetence in cooking and a complete disregard of our enjoyment. Because of the reasonably low prices, we weren’t expecting a gourmet meal; however, the wad of charcoal labelled as a “burger” my daughter received could be classified as a rock and to top it all off, she didn’t even order a burger! I ordered her a chicken burger which she did not receive until 20 minutes after we had finished eating! My sister ordered gammon with egg and pineapple, and we weren’t notified until after we had received our food that they had no eggs. They tried to redeem this slightly with a free portion of chips, but these did not arrive until a considerable time after my daughter’s chicken burger. We also ordered 3 scampi and chips with peas and the peas were rock solid. My sister ordered children’s fish finger for her 1 year old daughter and they were incinerated and inedible. When we kindly complained about our meal and asked for some money back the only thing they could offer were free desserts or a £2 refund. We asked for the manager but we were told she was “busy” .I left my number and the waitress said she will notify the manager to give me a call. It had been a couple of days and there was still no call from her, so I decided to ring them. Yet again she was “unavailable”.

tldr: The inadequate cooking and abhorrent lack of customer service has left a bitter taste in our mouths and we will never return to the Hammer...

Gave this place a try a few weeks ago as it's our new local. First of all I would like to say how lovely, helpful and accommodating the staff were. We couldn't fault them; simply lovely humans all round. The food on the other had was... abysmal. I was actually embarrassed sitting there with my family as it was my suggestion to try. We have 2 Gluten free members of my family... the places doesn't even have an allergys menu to start with. So my family are given the allergy list and spent aages scouting every item this place sells one by one to see if it's Gluten free... turns out the opinions were very limited, this usually signals cheap, easy to cook food. They ended up ordering chips. My mother got what looked like 5 chips! My sister ordered the double portion and barely got much more; this is listed as a meal remember. We waited an appallingly long time for our meals which didn't come together, were rather small portions and were some were cold. I thought my solution would lie in a nice cold cider on a very warm evening... but no, the choice simply wasn't there either. We left embarrassed, thirsty and still hungry. To top it off we then get a fine for parking in their car park... So they are happy to fine you and make you pay for your custom. Happy to never repeat that experience again even with out the Gluten free humans...

Our second stop on our New Year's Eve afternoon walk up the Porter, returning from Ringinglow, we were pleased to find Moonshine on tap and enjoyed a couple of pints. Back in the days before the industrial revolution, the Hammer and Pincers was a stop on the Sheffield to Hathersage Turnpike, providing not only a place stop and water the horses and drivers alike, but also to an opportunity to tend to wagon repairs and their horses' welfare. The Hammer and Pincers has been a highly popular pub in recent decades, but we guessed it was our mid-afternoon stop, or competition from the many new restaurants and hostelries that made this a quiet visit. We really enjoyed our the Moonshine beer and hope the pub enjoyed a really successful night on New Year's Eve.

Been coming here for a few years now and it's always pleasant enough. Staff are generally variable but the lady at the bar on our latest visit today was very pleasant. The food was great for the price on this occasion, one order was wring and it was offered to be fixed. That said, someone needs to clean the men's toilets. It's totally unacceptable. Frankly if it this dirty is a client facing area it makes you question how clean is the establishment in areas that are not.

I had a lovely meal of a pub classic steak and chips. The portions are fair in size and decent food quality. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The car parking scenario is a bit wired, give your reg at the bar! otherwise a pleasant time in nice surroundings. I will visit here again.
