Me and my wife stayed the night in Elgol for a boat tour, and while this was sadly called off due to inclement weather, we were still happy to have visited the village, because: a) itâs a beautiful place; and b) Elgol Bistro is one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at.
We booked ahead (which is advisable) and were met with excellent service â polite and helpful but giving us the time and space to enjoy our visit. The bistro is small but well laid-out as to not feel cramped, and the fixtures are clean and well maintained. Even the soft ambient music playing in the background felt like it was hand-picked for the experience (I had meant to ask the waiter for a link to the playlist).
We had the jackfruit wings and Cullen skink for starters, which were both cooked and seasoned to perfection. Then, we had the paprika chicken salad and fishcake for mains, both of which came with chips, salad and dressing/tartare sauce. Again, every element was cooked to perfection (the chips had that perfect crunchy-but-not-too-crunchy texture to them), and the dishes were well balanced in terms of flavours and portion sizes (not too much, not too little).
While we passed on a full dessert, I went for the âdragon dramâ, a glass of whisky with crushed red chilli flakes and an ice cube. For me, it was a perfectly tasty and well-balanced drink, although I am a known vindaloo enthusiast. To add to this, however, the waiter gave us a free portion of ice cream to try, asking for our honest feedback. Happily obliging, we tried the dessert and promptly ate the lot of it; it was chocolatey, lightly spiced and had a texture â consistent throughout â akin to slab fudge, which is very impressive.
All in all, this little restaurant made our trip to Elgol (and, dare I say, the whole trip to the Isle of Skye) more than worthwhile, and I canât think of anyone I wouldnât...

Delicious food, each and every item on the menu is executed to perfection using fresh local produce. Friendly professional staff. A gem, tucked away but sooo worth a trip there, or perfect after a day out on a boat trip from Elgol Harbour. Book to avoid disappointment. We ate there on three occasions during our holiday sampling various dishes including, Venison Lasagne, Fish and Chips and Skye Venison Casserole after a bowl of delightfully warming Cullen Skink. Desserts also delicious, we sampled Grannies Rhubarb Crumble and a selection of tasty local ice creams. Do not miss an opportunity to stop by and experience Elgol Bistro for yourselves.    Read moreAfter a day at Elgol, we stopped in at Elgol Bistro for dinner. No reservations and they were happy to seat us. Both the chef and the the host ensured that our meal was to our liking. We had Cullen Skink and the Poachers Platter as starters. I haven't had Cullen Skink previously but this was delicious. Main course was fish & chips. A beautiful piece of haddock done in nice light batter with all of the trimmings. Nice and crispy and not oily. Clearly the best fish & chips that we've had in Scotland to date. Finally Grannies Apple Crumble for dessert. Amazing! All this for ~£60. Thank you for a memorable meal. I would suggest making reservations...
