We had an absolutely wonderful tour at John’s Smokehouse on the Isle of Skye with my husband and my parents. Even though my parents don’t speak English very well, John was incredibly considerate and always made sure I had enough time to translate. As soon as we arrived, we were lucky enough to spot otters in the water – such a magical start to our visit! After that, John shared his story and biography, explaining how he got into smoked salmon and the journey that led him to creating his own smokehouse on the Isle of Skye. His passion and dedication to his craft were immediately evident.

We then strolled into the garden where the smokehouse stands, and John gave us a personal tour, walking us through the entire process up close. Seeing everything firsthand and hearing his detailed explanations was truly fascinating. Finally, we enjoyed a tasting of his delicious creations. John even went out of his way to accommodate dietary needs, offering gluten-free options so everyone could fully enjoy the experience. The whole visit was incredibly personal, informative, and memorable. We had a great time. John gave us a warm welcome to his home followed by telling his interesting story of how he ended up where he is today. We then toured the production facility and smokehouse. To say that John knew his stuff would be an understatement. Not only does he know how to smoke food but, as a top level chef, he understand flavours and has such passion for his product. We then finished off by eating some stunning food cooked by John using his smoked fish. Not only was the smoked fish the best I've ever had, but the way he cooked and presented them was spot on - each bite was a treat. We both feel like we've had a 5 star dinner and a show. Originally I was put off my cost, but the food was honestly great and the tour was detailed and lengthy - I'm very happy we went along.
