Not suitable for COELIACS!!! The menu suggests there are gluten free options. As a coeliac, this is very important to me. Ordering my gluten free fish and chips it turned out there are no gluten free fish and chips, as they are fried in a fryer which is also used for gluten products. The cook doesn't seem to understand that once something gluten free is fried in a fryer which contains gluten it is not gluten free anymore and therefore should NOT be on the menu as gluten free. According to the waiters in the bar area, the cook also seems not approachable and the information they gave was vague. When trying to find out how and what exactly, one waiter just simply walked out on us and the other waiter stated that she just had started at the place, which seemed odd, as she was behind the bar when I visited the pub for a drink with a friend three months ago. That left me with with the Green Thai Chicken Curry, which tasted rather bland and without the prawn crackers. Even for me, a small eater, who never finishes Fish and Chips, this was not enough. If you're a coeliac and around in the area, I would recommend the pub on the other side of the A11, the Tree Tuns in Abington. Wonderful Thai food, with quite a few gluten free options and gluten free prawn crackers as well!

Dear George Inn owner, Thank you very much for your reply. It looks like I can not reply to you, hence I write it here. There was nothing mentioned at all regarding any fault re the Gluten Free fryers. Nor was anything mentioned at all re the prawn crackers. As written above, when I tried to find out what exactly had happened and why the gluten free dishes mentioned on the menu were not available one waiter walked out on me telling that the cook was to busy and his colleague stated that she didn't know, as she was new to the place. If any of them had mentioned regarding the fault of the fryers and the issues they were dealing with, I would have been more understanding and I would not have written any review at all, but come back another time to try the food. However, none of the waiters seem to be able to explain properly regarding issues with faulty fryers, but both were vague about having gluten free food on some days and not on others, but no proper explanation, other than the suggestion that I could maybe ring at some point. This whole thing leaves me with the feeling that either the waiters are not able to communicate properly with the clients regarding any issues, or there was no issue and the owner is making...

Friday lunchtime at The George was stark evidence of how inflation is hitting the pub trade. The menus reproduced here (don't know when they were taken) show traditional fish and chips costing £11.95. On Sept 2 they were £15.95!

The dish was generous and delicious but gives a worrying indication of how prices are rising. At least the beer - a good selection and well kept - hadn't hit the dreaded £5 a pint mark (yet).

Three of us sat outside on the sunny terrace, made even more comfortable by a circular brick wall that shields the wind while radiating stored heat.

A common theme of the economic crisis is shortage of staff in the catering trade. No such problems here - all the young waiters and waitresses were on their toes, polite and helpful.

My only criticism was the scallops were rather bland, lacking that essential seafood aroma. I would have expected better quality for the price. But that's a minor point in the context of an otherwise enjoyable lunch in a...

The restaurant is nice, it's clean and a good place to eat. The food was ok, just felt it was really over priced. I had half chicken but wanted it with just a salad. This cost me around £23. Which I felt was excessive for a half chicken that was closer to the size of a pigeon. It was nicely cooked and the staff were friendly so I ate and left. But I wouldn't ever have that again for that price and would think again about returning when I consider what I'd get elsewhere for the same money

*In response to the reply, the review isn't confusing. I can't eat high fat so didn't want fries or bacon, i did tell the waitress this. And this is what arrived. I wasn't offered any other options. It's not sad i wrote it, it's an honest review. You know how big the half chickens are and choose to serve it, a lot of money even when served...

If there were more stars for experience I would give them to this fine establishment. Farmers and friends from many lands should visit. Only one word describes the splendour of the Babraham surroundings; transformative. I first visited Babraham on the 10th of August 2023 and yearned to return, which I then did a few hours later. If you have a travel guide at home throw it out; it's worthless. Travel guides will have to be rewritten to simply read 'Babraham'. Everything else will be a footnote. I hope to return to Babraham on an emotional, spiritual, social, political, cultural journey to once again pay respect to Babraham and the groundbreaking research happening, as well as the Jonas Webb statue erected by farmers and friends from many lands. 7 stars out of a maximum of 5.

My family and I visited the George for Sunday lunch. Lovely pub that was really busy so had a buzzing atmosphere. The car park was full so we had to park our car out on the street - not really a problem. The service was informal but attentive. The venison pie was lovely - I thoroughly enjoyed it. The rest of our group had roast dinners, the only criticism would be that the food was a little tepid and would have preferred it hotter (however I'm sure this would have been rectified had we have asked). We all had room for pudding and the orange and gingerbread cheesecake was delicious - highly recommend! We felt the prices were fair for the quality of food we had. Would definitely return to the George.
