Today we visited the local chippy while staying in the area , we love a good chippy tea! The fish was cooked to order, which we appreciated, and the batter was nice and crispy. However, the fish batter itself was quite oily, which let it down a bit. That said, it was thick, flaky, and clearly fresh.
The chips were cooked well and served piping hot, just how we like them.
Being from up north and living near Whitby, we naturally compare everywhere to Whitby’s famous fish and chips. So far, no place has quite matched up — including this one. If the fish had been left to drain for a minute or two after frying to reduce the excess oil, it could have made a big difference.
