We had a terrible experience. We arrived 12.20, ordered 12.40. This was alright, as we were due to arrive at 12.30 but were a bit early. My 13 year old brother has Sausage and mash, peas and corn on the cobs. My 7 year old brother and my mother both had the 3 mixed meats roast dinner and I had just the beef roast dinner. The food arrived 1.58pm, so we waited for over an hour, which probably would have been longer if my mum hadnât complained to the staff about the wait. Iâd also like to add that several other people who arrived long after us were served before us, many ordering the roast dinners too.
The menus do not have prices on them, so you donât even know the cost of what youâre ordering. Also, as it was Motherâs Day, we were only given the Motherâs Day menu and the childrenâs menu, so there was a significant lack of options to choose from. Our meals turned out to be ÂŁ65.49, which is atrocious considering how underwhelming it was. The food was lukewarm at best. The potatoes were soggy and, rather than tasting âcrispyâ (which the menu claims) and fresh, they tasted like they had been previously frozen. The Beef was chewy and near to inedible. I have braces in and couldnât eat the beef on my plate, as it was so chewy that it would get stuck on my brackets, causing me to keep choking. The mash, carrots and peas tasted boiled and were not rememberable and the gravy was watery (a jelly-like substance poured out of the cup, too, but I forgot to picture it). The carrots also looked to be somewhat dirty, which can be a food hazard as soil can cause food poisoning.
My seven year old brother and mother were not served Yorkshire puddings or stuffing with their roasts. My mum asked the servers about this and they said that they would bring some Yorkshire puddings out for them, but those never came. My 13 year old brotherâs meal did not come with 2 corn on the cobs, but 1, despite the menu saying that he would have 2. We asked about the dessert at 2.10pm and it arrived at 2.26pm. Not too bad, but we did order it when we ordered our main meals and we wouldnât have had it delivered if we didnât ask. I had the triple brownie off of the Motherâs Day menu, my mother had the apple betty thing, my thirteen year old brother had the brownie off of the kids menu and the youngest wanted just a vanilla ice cream. The younger of my brothers was delivered a brownie, which we said could be returned as he ordered ice cream. The servers insisted that my thirteen year old brother had that brownie alongside the one that he already had. He wasnât hungry, but they left it with him anyway. Food was wasted in this process, as none of us were hungry for another brownie. We also werenât delivered spoons with the puddings and had to ask for those, too. I will say that the desserts were all nice, but they do not make up for the disgraceful main meals. The furniture and environment were lacking; the cutlery laid out was dirty and the drinks were served in dirty glasses.
The people serving were nice and patient, but the general speed and quality of the place is terrible. I donât expect much from a pub, but this was genuinely appalling, especially considering the cost of it. They also insisted my motherâs â25% off of the food billâ voucher was only for one meal, so it only took ÂŁ3 off of the bill when it should have been 25% off of the total! They advertise on their website that if you sign up, you get 25% off (which I will add a picture of below). The lady did take ÂŁ10 off of the meal for the inconvenience of our experience. One of the waitresses also offered us a round of free drinks, as an apology for the mess of a time. The only thing that is saving this place is the people serving. We were there for well...
Read moreOrganisation of our familys joint party was poor with no extra seating which may have been needed allowed for so some family members had to sit away from us in a dimly lit secluded area. We were promised a private area for our 20 plus party and another family were seated up on the raised area when staff were asked about this they said the family had been booked in for ages ok if that was the case they should not have taken our large booking they said that was all they could do as they were fully booked again if they couldn't accommodate us for our special occasion we would have gone elsewhere. The whole time spent here was very disappointing with long waiting times at the bar due to lack of staff, drinks being served in inappropriate glasses with obviously poor staff training lack of knowledge of drinks and how to serve them correctly and lack of customer service from most staff on that day of Sunday 8th Dec. Most of our party arrived for 1pm with our parents arriving at 1.30pm as a surprise to them that was the time our booking was arranged from so we all sat down and waited and waited bearing in mind there were no starters on our order we received our first meals out at 3.10pm Turkey dinners then as they sat on tables going cold the rest of meals were brought out next then the gravy and sauces the Turkey was hard round the edges the roasts and Yorkshire puddings were rock hard and inedible and the steaks were chewy and full of gristle I then had to go and ask for tables to be cleared they were left for at least half an hour we then had to wait ages for our desserts and the last of us left at approx 5.45pm. The deserts were the only part of this meal that were actually any good we all made the best of a very poorly organised badly managed shambles of a so called Table Table restaurant which is clearly left to be run by inexperienced staff with little or no respect for customers and I have no idea why anyone would want to drink here let alone eat a meal not happy at all and will definitely not be recommending The Stanhope to anyone in...
Read moreCustomer Service severely lacking & looking somewhat tired. This place is usually ok - cheap & cheerful. We visit frequently From London as it is close to my dads nursing home. Today we had the most surly & rude waitresses young long dark hair in French braids - passive aggressive behaviours. Dead flies & wasps on the window ledges next to our table, not asked if we had any allergies, although we noticed waitresses asking other tables. Given 2 menus for 3 of us, eye roll and huff went I went back ask. I asked a question about the orange juice whether it was fresh or reconstituted - I donât know. No offer to check so I asked if she could find out - I wasnât asking to be difficult I cannot drink certain things. Menus for dessert flopped on the table not handed out as she did with other tables. Food was ok, scampi portion small & a piece of plastic in the coconut sorbet by which point I couldnât be bothered to complain. Will cross off our list for future visits. Miller & Carter and The Dial in Burton a little further away from DASS home but worth it for the fantastic customer service.
Maybe she was new - I can forgive waitresses anything but not a lack of customer service, manners cost nothing. That said I appreciate the low wages they receive still left the usual 12.5% tip.
Didnât have our booking which we had made on their system - these things happen & they were able to accommodate us at the last unreserved table. I always book as we travel up from London every Saturday & want to ensure as we take mum who has cancer to visit dad we have somewhere to...
